Light Shines in the Darkness
The Season of Advent is a time of year when we focus on looking for signs of Light coming into the world where stuff happens that takes us into some pretty dark valleys. It is trust in the Light of Christ coming into the world that makes is it possible for us to find Light, to see Christ no matter what is happening in the world or in our lives. Light is even brighter in darkness.
This we trust: "What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not overcome it." John 1:3b-5
Sunday, December 4, "Prepare for the Light"
The Light and Life of Jesus is easier to see if our hearts are open and available. We meet John the Baptist who was a strange person yet important person in the life of Jesus. He urges us to prepare the way into our hearts that the light of Jesus might release its power in us.
John the Baptist cried out, "The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: "Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.' " Matthew 3:3
Sunday, December 11, "Gathered into the Light" - SCS Christmas Pageant
Mary holds Jesus, the Light, in her arms. What did she understand about the child she embraced? Joseph told her how in his dream he was told he should marry her even though she was pregnant. She agreed. Neither of them had much information to go on; they just did as the angel said. They were prepared. Come and follow their journey as a strange collection of people gather to welcome the Light of Jesus.
God becomes human, "'They shall name him Emmanuel,' which means, 'God is with us.'" Matthew 1:23
Sunday, December 18, "Sing Praise for the Light" - Christmas Cantata
Come and worship the Light in a fantastic wonder! Hear the Light of Jesus in joyous song with an energetic choir, dynamic orchestra. The combination will draw you into closer to the love of Christ for you and for the whole world. You will leave knowing the Light of Christ lives in you.
The Psalmist tells us: "Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised." Psalm 96:3-4
Saturday, December 24: "Glory to God! The Light Has Come!" 3:00, 5:00, 8:00 PM
Invite your friends and family to our Christmas Eve Celebration of the wondrous news of the birth of Jesus Christ. In the shadow of the steeple, the star's rays light the way gave light for the shepherds to follow. Follow the star to Immanuel and join us singing familiar carols accompanied by our festive choral singers and a brass choir. We will have an engaging children's message and reflections on the Light in the world in today's world, and treasured candle lighting ceremony!
Join the Immanuel family for a morning of singing your favorite Christmas carols and hear the good news of the dawning of our Savior's dawning light!
Sunday, December 25: "The Light Has Dawned! Hallelujah!" 9:45 AM
The angel: "Do not be afraid; for see-I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord." Luke 2:10-11

Steinway Piano at Immanuel
Immanuel Lutheran Church has received an offer to help us purchase a different piano to enhance our worship times. On December 4th, we will hold a Congregational Meeting between the 2nd and 3rd services to discuss the offer and make a decision about the purchase of the piano and how it might be financed.
Jim and Grace Hanny have made the decision to use the money contributed on their behalf to initiate the purchase of a STEINWAY CONCERT GRAND PIANO for the church. The designated funds from their family and friends, plus personal contribution exceed $8,500. Designated music funds from the Loraine Peterson Memorial of $1,500 will enable our church to make an initial down payment of $10,000. Additionally, a member of our church, that requests to remain anonymous, will contribute $30,000, making the total down payment $40,000.
We would need your help to purchase this extraordinary piano. STEINWAY PIANO GALLERY has delivered the selected piano to our church and allows us 4-6 weeks to try it out and discuss its purchase. Join us at worship to hear this beautiful instrument.
Christmas Cantata Rehearsals
The Christmas Cantata Choir rehearses on Wednesdays at 6:45PM downstairs in the music room and we would LOVE to include you ALL! Music is a vital ministry that belongs to ALL people of God. The music will ground and anchor you with the Christmas message of love, hope, and redemption-the heart of the Christmas story and the heartbeat of a loving God.
You will receive rehearsal CD's to help learn your parts. An important Dress Rehearsal is scheduled for Saturday, December 17th from 10:00AM-12:00N. The glorious presentation is Sunday, December 18th at all three services! Childcare will be available throughout our Cantata preparation. We are so grateful for this amazing gift! Praise Team: Rehearses Wednesdays, 8:00 PM
Praise Team members vibrantly lead contemporary worship songs each week at 9:45 and 11:07, help lead special services throughout the year, and represent Immanuel in the community. Some musical training is necessary and members are required to attend rehearsals. Contact John Ivan at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in joining the team!
Special music offerings throughout the year offer depth and variety to worship, and allow numerous people an opportunity to share their musical gifts at Immanuel. We are blessed through solos, duets, special anthems, and Sunday School Singers that inspire and bring us to tears! Vocalists and instrumentalists are encouraged to share their God given talents as musical offerings. Please contact John Ivan at email@example.com to schedule a time to share your unique gifts at Immanuel!
We appreciate all of your prayer requests each week! We want to continue praying for all individuals because we know how powerful prayer is in the lives of so many. It has been a struggle to keep the list up to date, so we have come up with a plan to keep the list current from month to month. On the first of the new month, we will restart the prayer list. If someone needs to stay on the list, just let Brenda know by using the worship card found in the weekly bulletin, calling the church office (262.248.4211), emailing Brenda at firstname.lastname@example.org, or dropping off a note in the church office. We want your requests, so we can continue praying for those in need. Contact Brenda if you have any questions.

Salvation Army needs a few good men, women and children. Sign up now on the clip board going around church to ring the bells for Salvation Army. It is a wonderful opportunity to serve others while enjoying the great outdoors. The Salvation Army provides emergency assistance to families in need, and 85% of the funds collected in the kettles stay right here in Walworth County. The rest of the money goes to fund 6 homeless shelters in Wisconsin, and a small amount goes for administrative costs. Last year we raised almost $20,000 for those in need. We have several dates available: Friday, December 2, Friday, December 9, Friday, December 16 and Monday, December 19. There will be a copy of completed sign-up sheets on a clipboard in the Gathering Space. Brenda will also have a copy inside the office, and I will have a copy at home in case you forget your time or place. Thanks, Georgia Gehrmann 248-5745
Ryan Johnson Fundraiser
We have received word from Ryan's aunt, Jackie Sieber that their family is doing a fundraiser in Ryan's name for "Red Strong Foundation." The 2nd Annual 9 Pin Bowling benefit will be held on Saturday, January 14th. If anyone from Immanuel would like to make a donation or donate an item for silent auction, they should contact Jackie Sieber at email@example.com.
"Stitchin' for Kids"
The Wednesday morning quilters have a special project in the works. They will be making fleece blankets for the children who come to The Tree House (Children's Advocacy Center, Elkhorn) due to suspected physical or sexual abuse and/or neglect. Ages range is anywhere from a couple weeks old to 17 years of age.
This can be a traumatic experience for these precious souls and the Tree House staff has found that if they are able to give them a "lovie" when they arrive, or leave, it helps calm and sooth the children while the process is taking place.
If you would like to help with this worthwhile endeavor, many hands make the project go quickly and is fun besides. Contact Jackie Kuehl for more information.
Another way to be involved is to give a monetary donation to help offset the cost of each blanket ($20 per blanket). The quilters are always on the lookout for sales and specials, so if they have a cache of money available, they can quickly make even more blankets. Donations can be placed in an envelope with "Stitching for Kids" on the outside and left with Brenda in the church office. If you prefer to write a check, make it out to Immanuel Lutheran Church and put "Stitchin' for Kids" on the memo line.
The Wednesday morning quilters plan to have this as an ongoing project. Last year 300+ children were served at the Tree House...that is a lot of blankets. Thank you for whatever you can do to be of assistance to these children.
Make this Christmas Very Merry for a Walworth County Family in Need.
The Walworth County Alliance for Children (a 50l(c)(3) tax exempt charity) and the Walworth County Children's Advocacy Center a/k/a The Tree House (located in Elkhorn Wisconsin) is in great need of assistance. There were over 300 children who came to the Tree House this year due to suspected physical/sexual abuse and/or neglect. There are three projects in the works:
Adopt a Family for Christmas
: Many families that the Tree House serves are in great need of winter, coats, hats, scarves, boots, mittens/gloves etc. as winter is approaching. There is also a wish list for each child to indicate a toy, game or other special gift they would like to receive. Often groups go together to adopt a family, or an individual or family may wish to do so. If you are interested, please contact Evie Schulz by December 10th for additional information.
Also needed are frozen turkeys and hams for Christmas dinners. Names are submitted by local Law Enforcement Officers to the WCAC. A basket is then prepared and delivered by an officer to the family...what an awesome way for law enforcement to be present in the lives of people in a positive way.
If you or your group would like a tour of The Tree House, please contact Evie Schulz, Executive Secretary for the WCAC Board of Directors at 262-203-0464 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

Anyone interested in gathering for prayer is invited to join us in praying for our world, our country and our church. This is a very important time in our church life so we want to pray for God's hand to lead our council, our interim pastors, our staff and the whole congregation.

+ The recovering AA Women of Sunday Meetings thank Immanuel for the beautiful space generously given.
+ Dear Friends of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fall colors are in all their splendor in Lake Geneva! But at the Lake Geneva Food Pantry we are still seeing so many folks who need help in providing food for their families. On one day this past month, we had 22 families - made up of 44 adults & 20 children, come through our doors. That cleared most of our shelves, for sure. Many thanks for your generous & regular donations that help us to keep our shelves stocked! On behalf of all who come to us for help in feeding their families, Thank You! Sincerely, Lake Geneva Food Pantry Staff
+ Dear Friends of Immanuel, This is to acknowledge the $48.37 donation resulting from your Back to School fundraiser. As always we appreciate your $250 monthly donation that has been faithfully given over many years. Immanuel being one of the founding churches is and has always been a vital part of Side By Side. Since first receiving applicants in 2007 through December 2015, we have assisted 1486 families granting $454,278. Most of this has been applied to housing and utilities. We are deeply indebted to all who partner with us in giving our neighbors a secure hand up. In gratitude, Side By Side, Inc.
+ A heartfelt THANK YOU to all of our volunteers that so selflessly donate their time to our children, youth, and after school ministries. Our success is due to YOUR devotion and passion. May the Lord Bless each and every one of you!!
