ReTreeUS plants orchards in schools and provides educational programs that empower people to be healthy environmental stewards.
Fuel Up to Play 60 offers educators a wide array of resources they can use to help students make sustainable changes in their school environment.
Agroworld- agricultural science e-zine developed for the secondary educator.
Kids Gardening has ideas about plants and gardens, teacher resources, and grant opportunities.
The Chop Chop magazine and website has easy and healthy recipes.
Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom Ag Mags are 4-page, colorful agricultural magazines for kids.

Funding from this plate has impacted over 200,000 students in 2017 with lessons, materials, volunteers and teacher training. Annually up to $60K is distributed in grants to schools, FFA, 4-H and other Non-profit programs for Ag education initiatives by the Maine Agriculture in the Classroom Council.

The Maine Agriculture in the Classroom Association
The Non-profit, completely volunteer, portion of MAITC.
These funds are used directly to support teacher scholarships and recognition, and support volunteer participation for Ag education programs. Your donation is completely tax deductible and you can make a one-time donation or a recurring monthly donation which will support the mission, "to promote the understanding of agriculture and natural resources among students, educators, and the general public."

Maine Farm to School Conference!

The conference will be held at
Kennebec Valley Community College, Alfond Campus in Hinckley
The Maine Farm to School Network hosts an annual conference to convene farm to school stakeholders from across the state and beyond for a day of learning, best practice sharing, and networking.
The conference is held during Farm to School Month, draws about 150 people, & features local foods for snacks and meals.

Plant Something at School!
Maine Agriculture in the Classroom is teaming up with
Maine School Garden Network and
ReTreeUS to form the Maine School Garden Collaborative that will provide unique garden and orchard learning opportunities for 5 schools in 2019. Participating schools will receive fruit trees, garden consultation, integrated pest management resources and lessons that are aligned to learning standards that will enable teachers to utilize the gardens and orchards as outdoor classrooms.These opportunities have been made possible through a USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant awarded to
Maine Landscape and Nursery Association to work with the Maine School Garden Collaborative to get students and teachers to Plant Something at School! This year's recipient schools include:
- Sedgwick Elementary
- Great Salt Bay Community School
- Indian Township School
- Saccarappa Elementary
- Penobscot Community School
We intend to share resources generated from this collaboration with schools throughout the state and to provide this in-depth programming for 5 new schools in 2020. To learn more about these opportunities reach out to MSGN Program Director,

Our NEW 2019 Grant applications are now available on our website. There have been some changes to this year's program, but we will still be awarding $60K. There is a new grant category for Statewide Ag Education Organizations, new maximum awards, and some new deadlines.
- Ag Leadership and the new category will have 3 opportunities to apply in June, August and December.
- All other grants application deadline for submission is August 9, 2019.
*A reminder for 2018 grants that your final reports are due June 1st, unless you have requested a one-year, no-cost extension by email.*

New Maine Harvest of the Month Program
 The Maine Harvest of the Month (HOM) is a campaign that helps to promote the use of seasonally available, local products in schools, institutions, and communities. The program, which highlights a different Maine product each month, aims to provide students with local and healthy produce, while supporting Maine's farmers and producers.

NorthEast Livestock Expo Kids Day
 Thursday, May 16, 2019
In 2018, Northeast Livestock Expo (NELE) held its sixth "Kids Day" for over 3000 school children in grades K-6. Students, chaperones and teachers participated in self-guided tours among multiple agricultural stations on the grounds. This annual event is held on Thursday from 9:30am-1:30pm, giving children the opportunity to see and learn about a variety of livestock and agricultural commodities, often with hands-on interaction.
The 2019 Kids Day will feature a similar variety of opportunities.

Nutritional status and oral health have an interconnected relationship. Attend the MNC fall educational event and learn the nutritional aspects of dental and tissue health ages 0-99. Diet is important in the development, maintenance and repair of soft and hard oral tissues. Join in as we review the causes, assessment, prevention and treatment of dental caries, root caries, periodontal disease and the correlation to nutrition.
This event will include a clinical tour of the state-of-the-art UMA dental clinic. The dental programs provides instructional education for dental hygiene and assisting students and is an amazing resource to the community.

April is Maine Dairy Month! Check out these great Maine Dairy lessons from our Teach ME Food & Farms Site

Dairy. Grades 3-5.
Students will be able to look at the origin of dairy cows and the differences between cow breeds. They also will be able to explain the difference between organic and traditional dairy farming. Students will be able to write directions and construct bar graphs while learning about nutrition and composting activities.
- Milk Matters. Grades 3-5. Students will make ice cream or butter so they can observe the process of the liquid changing to a solid.
