Funding from this plate has impacted over 200,000 students in 2017 with lessons, materials, volunteers and teacher training. Annually up to $60K is distributed in grants to schools, FFA, 4-H and other Non-profit programs for Ag education initiatives by the Maine Agriculture in the Classroom Council.

Smoothie Demonstration
Come by the Demonstration Stage at the Ag Trades Show on Thursday, January 17th from 11am - noon to learn from Maine Agriculture in the Classroom, Maine School Garden Network, and other youth organizations.  Come watch, learn, and taste samples of delicious and nutritious smoothie recipes featuring Maine ingredients made by Maine students!

Grant Opportunity for the Casco Bay area
Applications due by January 22 , 2019
Casco Bay Estuary Partnership (CBEP) invites proposals for the  Casco Bay Community Grants  program. CBEP mobilizes  collective action to strengthen the Bay's ecological and economic vitality, fostering a shared commitment to Casco Bay. Through th is program, CBEP encourages new partnerships and innovative projects that engage communities with Casco Bay and its watershed. A total of $12,500 is available for  Casco Bay Community Grants  in 2019 We will consider  proposals between $500 and $5,000.

President's Environmental Youth Award
Applications are now being accepted for the 2018 President's Environmental Youth Award ( PEYA ).
EPA will select up to two winners in each of EPA's 10 Regions - one regional winner for Grades K-5 and one regional winner for Grades 6-12.
All student projects must be sponsored by at least one adult over the age of 21. For application and eligibility information, visit their website.
Applications are due February 1, 2019. 

Nutritower Giveaway

KidsGardening has partnered with Nutritower to give away a top-of-the-line hydroponic indoor gardening system. 
TeacherResources  Lessons:
- Exploring Aquaponics. Grades K-2. The students will identify the basic needs of plants and fish and engineer, assemble, maintain, and observe a small-scale aquaponics system that meets plant and fish needs.
- Test Tube Hydroponics. Grades 3-5. Students will investigate the importance of nutrients for plant growth and discover how plants grow without soil by growing and observing plants in a test tube hydroponic system.
Drones in High-Tech Farming. Grades 6-8. Students will discover the science behind how a drone works, explore how drones are used in agriculture, and program and operate a drone for the purpose of monitoring grazing sheep.
- Algaculture and Biofuel. Grades 9-12. Students will use the scientific method to learn about the growth properties of algae and how algae production may be a possible solution to address the global energy crisis. Students will utilize the engineering design process to apply their knowledge about algae growth to create a bioreactor for algae production and discover if biofuel can be made from algae.
