ReTreeUS plants orchards in schools and provides educational programs that empower people to be healthy environmental stewards.
Fuel Up to Play 60 offers educators a wide array of resources they can use to help students make sustainable changes in their school environment.
Agroworld- agricultural science e-zine developed for the secondary educator.
Kids Gardening has ideas about plants and gardens, teacher resources, and grant opportunities.
The Chop Chop magazine and website has easy and healthy recipes.
Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom Ag Mags are 4-page, colorful agricultural magazines for kids.

Funding from this plate has impacted over 200,000 students in 2017 with lessons, materials, volunteers and teacher training. Annually up to $60K is distributed in grants to schools, FFA, 4-H and other Non-profit programs for Ag education initiatives by the Maine Agriculture in the Classroom Council.

The Maine Agriculture in the Classroom Association
The Non-profit, completely volunteer, portion of MAITC.
These funds are used directly to support teacher scholarships and recognition, and support volunteer participation for Ag education programs. Your donation is completely tax deductible and you can make a one-time donation or a recurring monthly donation which will support the mission, "to promote the understanding of agriculture and natural resources among students, educators, and the general public."

Each year, MAITC recognizes an outstanding Maine elementary or secondary school teacher who uses agricultural education materials and/or activities in the classroom to teach core subjects.
Our 2019 Teacher of the Year, Lynn Snow, just returned from attending the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference in Little Rock, AR! Next year's winner will receive a trip to Salt Lake City, UT!

Nominate them to be our 2020 Teacher of the Year!

The Maine Agriculture in the Classroom Council will award grants in 5 categories, totaling up to $60,000 in support of Maine agriculture education in grade levels pre-kindergarten through 12 as a direct result of the Maine Agricultural Specialty License Plate. Suitable projects will promote an understanding of the food and fiber system in the state and the nation through the infusion of agricultural con
cepts into PreK-12

New Maine Harvest of the Month Program
 The Maine Harvest of the Month (HOM) is a campaign that helps to promote the use of seasonally available, local products in schools, institutions, and communities. The program, which highlights a different Maine product each month, aims to provide students with local and healthy produce, while supporting Maine's farmers and producers.

Life Stages: Oral Health and Nutrition
Nutritional status and oral health have an interconnected relationship. Attend our fall educational event and learn the nutritional aspects of dental and tissue health ages 0-99. Diet is important in the development, maintenance and repair of soft and hard oral tissues. Join in as we review the causes, assessment, prevention and treatment of dental caries, root caries, periodontal disease and the correlation to nutrition.
This event will include a clinical tour of the state-of-the-art UMA dental clinic. The dental programs provides instructional education for dental hygiene and assisting students and is an amazing resource to the community.

Lessons:
July is Maine Summer Squash Month!
- Squash. Grades K-5. Students will be able to explain the history of squash and locate where it is grown on a Maine map. They will be able to explain what part of the plant squash is, the growing season and its nutritional benefits. Students will be able to explain how foods with vitamin A keep us healthy and write a persuasive letter that includes squash. Students will also be able to participate in composting activities.
- Plant, Harvest, Eat. Grades 3-5. Students partner with a local farm to bring food full cycle, from seed to crops, from harvest to table. Students plant, grow and harvest food crops for the cafeteria and learn about the growing process in the classroom. After harvesting the school purchases the local produce from the farm and school nutrition experts whip up delicious recipes for all students to enjoy.
- Three Sisters Garden. Grades 3-5. Students will investigate the "three sisters" crops (corn, beans, and squash) and explore the benefit to planting these crops together. Students will also learn about Native American Legends and plant growth.
- Can We Have Too Much of a Good Thing? Grades 6-8. In this lesson students will understand that plants require nutrients in the proper concentrations. Students will discover that plants can be damaged or killed by either too many or too few nutrients.
- Chain of Food. Grades 9-12. Students will explore the path food takes along the Farm-to-Table Continuum. They will begin on the farm and investigate food safety issues during processing, transportation, at restaurants and supermarkets, and finally, in their own homes. Teams will identify how food can become contaminated along the continuum and develop and present strategies for preventing contamination at each step.
