OLDIES AND GOODIES

and we just feel that, in preparation for our big year 2018,
we had to travel down memory lane

and if any of you old (,,,as having been members for a long time) members  have saved Newsletter that could be digitalized, please let us know.

Our club became digitalized in 2012,
and it would be wonderful to be able to give our members some more glimpses to what happened "way back when".

President's Message

Lars B Ericsson
From The President:

Sarasota, Florida, May 2017.

Dear Members and Friends of the Swedish Club.

Early Summer and Hurricane season now only weeks away. Hopefully we will be spared from troublesome or even devastating storms. However, this has been very long period without significant precipitation  and we do need rain, badly!

I take this moment to welcome several new members
to the Swedish Club of Sarasota.
It was nice to see so many of them at the Scandinavian Shrimp Feast which again was a huge success.
That event has really been a tradition we all look forward to.

In early April we sponsored a presentation by Dr. Dan Bagger-Sjöbäck of his updated book "Det goda åldrandet". Some 30 members and guests took advantage of the Guest Speaker event. For those of you that are traveling to Sweden this summer, take advantage of buying your own copy
while there.

Past several years, the club has sponsored a traditional Midsummer Event together with the Swedish Club in Tampa. However, we have no information if they will have a party
or not. So many of our members leave the area during
the warm summer months, and the attendance by our own members would be limited. Therefore we decided not to have our own Midsummer Celebration.
Our apologies to those who had been looking forward to it.

Yes, the crayfish party is on for October 21 2017
at Holiday Inn by the Sarasota airport.
More about the Crayfish Party in our August-September newsletter.

Traditional Lucia Sunday December 10 2017 at
the St Armand's Key Lutheran Church ...

For 2018 we are planning a Musical event in January
similar to what we did in Jan 2016.

Next year is when the club will Celebrate our
30th Anniversary ... Plans are for March. Date and location will be announced in the  September  2017 newsletter and on the website when set.

In the meantime, enjoy the summer wherever you plan to spend it, short time or longer.

Hope to see many of you at the Crayfish Party in October - Wish everyone welcome.

Lars Ericsson
President, Swedish Club of Sarasota

We did it again!
Our Popular Annual Shrimp Party - A sold out house with Swedes and shrimp lovers who enjoyed Buffet Style All You Can Eat Scandinavian Shrimps plus all the trimmings including traditional aquavit. This year we tried to add peeled shrimp and that was well received too. All together, another successful event.
The Swedish Club of Sarasota would like to thank everyone who worked hard to make this happen and last but not least - all of you partakers who makes this such superb experience!

In Margareta's Corner Of The Kitchen

Yummy, Yummy
but super simple Sockerkaka - Sponge Cake

Margareta tells us;
"-Here is a simple recipe that I sometimes make.
Only a few ingredients - using things you usually have in the pantry."

Super Simple Sockerkaka with Lemon Taste

Ingredients:
½ stick butter
2 eggs
¾ cup of sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1-1/4 cup of flour
1/3 cup of milk
Lemon zest from 1 lemon
----
Melt butter. Whisk together eggs and sugar until foamy.
Mix baking powder and flour and then add to egg mixture.
Add the milk, melted butter and lemon zest.
Pour into buttered and floured baking pan.
Bake for about 45 min at 350 degrees.
Let cool for about 10 min in pan before removing.
Optional:  After cake is completely cool, you can drizzle some melted chocolate over the top.
OR
Since you already have the lemon, you can make a simple lemon juice-powdered sugar glaze to drizzle on top of the cake.

Add some whipped cream and fresh raspberries on top - oh so good!

Hot Tip!

Take a few minutes of your time and look at their web site.

We are sure some of you, members of the Swedish Club
or not, will find your name listed!

Yes, that is a true statement!

Someone just found $$ from Staples, previously forgotten .... enough for a good dinner out!

You will not see values or dollar amounts until you have 'identified' yourself!

Here is the web site:  https://www.fltreasurehunt.org/

Good Luck!
