Message from the PTO President
Dear VFES Families:

Hope you had a good couple of weeks!

Our pizza bingo night is scheduled for Friday, February 3rd from 6pm - 8pm at Conestoga High School. If you have not sent in your response yet, please do so asap, so we have a count. Mrs. Will, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Riley, and Ms. Mancuso will be our bingo callers. Students love to see their teachers and principal outside of school.

Our 4th grade end of the year committee will host a bake sale at pizza bingo night. They have yummy treats, so come prepared to buy some. The funds collected from the bake sale will benefit the 4th grade graduation party.

Our next PTO meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 10 at 9am in the Large Group Room. We love to see so many parents attending the meetings, giving us their valuable suggestions and volunteering for events. Thank you!

Our after school clubs are full. We hope your children are enjoying our parent-run and teacher-run clubs. Most of our after-school clubs are now run by parents and teachers, which makes me so proud! It benefits the PTO and thereby, our children and the school. Thank you! We are now gearing up for our Spring clubs.

I hope you meet you at our PTO meeting and events. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, feel free to email me at [email protected] .

Much love,
Rujuta Mandelia

Art Goes to School is coming to VFES
February 6th to 10th 2017

Art Goes to School is an art appreciation program specifically designed for young children. Our primary  purpose is to instill an interest and delight in art, in all its forms and styles and from all historical periods  and geographic locations. The AGTS volunteers help children discover for themselves an enjoyment in  and an understanding of art, not by lecturing, but by becoming "Art Detectives" who will uncover a  whole new way of looking at and appreciating art. We will be playing games that involve poems, a  scavenger hunt and fun facts trivia.

Perhaps you might like to sit in on a session to see what we do - please click here for  the schedule.

Please feel free to contact  Sarah Culbert on 610 783 1255 or email her at [email protected] with any other questions.
Calling on Business Owners!
March 25th

On Saturday, March 25, the PTO is hosting a Parents' Night Out and are seeking silent auction items - all proceeds to benefit the PTO.  In return for your donation, your business will be advertised in our Falcon newsletter and at the event itself.  From jewelry and skin care to design and teaching services, we know our community is full of wonderful businesses that we would like to spotlight and encourage our VFES parents to utilize.

Please contact Rujuta Mandelia ( [email protected] ) by March 1 to reserve your auction spot or for more information.

Important Legislative Alert - Please Read!
The Tredyffrin-Easttown School District asked that we notify you of legislation currently being considered in the state legislature that, if passed, will impact our district. The proposed legislation would largely eliminate school property taxes to fund schools and replace those funds with income and sales taxes.  Very similar legislation was considered in 2015 and only failed by one vote.  The TE School Board recently passed a resolution opposing this legislation, which states in part:

"The shift from the property tax to the income tax and sales tax will have a harmful effect on the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District. Many of our District's top quality programs result from careful planning and funding at the local level with a strategic focus on providing our students what they need to succeed in tomorrow's world. This legislation will strip TESD of the ability to function independently, effectively making local authorities dependent upon Harrisburg. Funding will flow through the state, eliminating financial discretion for local districts. High quality programs that exceed state mandates and minimum standards require funding currently provided locally."

PLEASE READ   the District's statement on this proposed legislation here and consider contacting the governor and your state legislators if you oppose these changes in school funding.
Congratulations Mrs. Kennedy!
Mrs. Kennedy gave birth to Claire Jessie on January 25th. Both mom and daughter are doing well.

Conestoga Youth Lacrosse
Happy New Year to all of you!  We hope you have had a wonderful break and are renewed and ready for the New Year.  Although it is January, Lacrosse season is right around the corner and that means it is time to register for Conestoga Youth Lacrosse (CYL).  CYL is our township boys lacrosse program and it is the biggest township program in the area.  We are very excited for the spring season.  We love the game of lacrosse and want to share that love with your sons.  Our goal as an organization is to teach the fundamentals while fostering a love for the sport and most importantly to have fun!  Please note that  Registration CLOSES February 5th, 2017 .  There are only a couple weeks  left!
Registration may be accessed using the link : here.

Please note that using a laptop or desktop computer is the best way to complete the registration process.  Use of a mobile device or iPad has posed problems for many people.
For U7-U11, please register before February 5th, 2017.

Age Divisions for Play
CYL follows US Lacrosse age-based divisional play format.  Note eligibility for each division, by DOB (CYL does not allow for age based exceptions, and does not allow players to "play up" age divisions):
  • DOB 9/1/2005 - 8/31/2007, U11
  • DOB 9/1/2007 - 8/31/2009, U9
  • DOB 9/1/2009 - pre-K, U7
U9 and U7:
U9 and U7 eligible players will be divided into as many teams as enrollment requires.  This will take place in March 2017, in advance of play.  CYL generally tries to balance these teams by talent level, and with an eye towards players' schools.
For any technical issues related to the registration process, please contact Greg Johnson at [email protected]
For all other questions or concerns,  please contact Bob Lee at [email protected]

We are looking forward to a great season!
