The Recreation and Parks Department will host informal meetings to share plans for improvements to the Morgan Falls Dog Park. On Saturday, Feb. 10 from 2-4 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 18 from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., onsite at the dog park (100 Morgan Falls Road), the public will have the opportunity to share ideas and hear about the variety of improvements which include: better drainage to the large dog area, the addition of shade structures and site furnishings, water fountains, dog washing stations, and more.

Mark your calendar for the next Sandy Springs Connects Career Expo. This free, local career-focused event helping jobseekers get face-to-face with Sandy Springs and Perimeter area businesses, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13 from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. in the Studio Theater at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center. Mount Vernon Highway and Johnson Ferry Intersection Improvements | | |
|
|
This TSPLOST-funded improvement project will improve vehicular and pedestrian mobility and reduce congestion by alleviating the bottleneck conditions for east-west traffic on Johnson Ferry Road and Mount Vernon Highway and north-south traffic on Roswell Road. Both roads will be widened to each contain eastbound and westbound lanes. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in early 2024.

Update: Nancy Creek Streambank Restoration Work Underway
Construction at Windsor Meadows Park to stabilize Nancy Creek’s streambank and improve stormwater quality started in early January and is making fast progress. The park should reopen to the public in March, depending on stream conditions, streambank stability and weather. Expect the pedestrian bridge across Nancy Creek to be closed during work hours.

Trees Atlanta Front Yard Program
The City is proud to continue its Front Yard Tree Program in partnership with Trees Atlanta. Eligible residents can get up to three front yard trees planted this winter or next spring free of charge. Visit treesatlanta.org/yardtree for details and to reserve your trees.

Eco-Steward Program
The City's Environmental Stewardship Program is designed for local residents eager to engage deeply with our many greenspaces and distinctive urban forest. The program comprises twelve sessions per year, each hosted in different greenspaces. All learning activities occur outdoors and will begin this month through June, resuming in August and finish February 2025.

Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks offers a competitive track program for boys and girls ages 7-14 years old. The Sandy Springs Striders will compete in local weekend track meets plus in the GRPA District and State track meets. Morning Bird Walk
Morgan Falls Overlook Park boasts several habitats, and thus a large variety of birds over the course of the year: mudflats (shorebirds, including Avocets in 2017), lake (winter ducks, nesting Bald Eagles), river, woodland, and field (sparrows). The walk will involve (possibly wet) grass, stairs, gently sloped pavement, and unpaved trails. A scope and loaner binoculars will be available. We will begin at Overlook Park - Meet in the Parking Lot next to restrooms - then we will walk the road below to Morgan Falls Dam.

Advanced Paint Like Bob Ross
Are you ready to take your Bob Ross paintings to the next level? The advanced level is available if you’ve had at least 6 foundational Bob Ross classes or by special instructor invitation.
The advanced level is an extended 5-hour class that helps to refine the Bob Ross techniques you’ve learned in foundational classes. The class size is also smaller allowing for more individual support. Advanced instruction will include new techniques not taught in the foundational classes and will offer deeper explanations of composition, brush strokes, and color theory. Saturday, Feb. 3 at 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Hammond Park.

Friends of Lost Corner – It’s For the Birds Program
Want to attract the largest number and variety of birds to your backyard? Roseanne Guerra, Master Birder and Audubon lecturer will share all the ways we can make our backyards an oasis for our feathered friends. She will cover the best type of seed and feed, what kinds of bird feeders to use and where to place them to attract the most birds. As an added bonus, she will share tips on how we can deter those pesky squirrels!
