It's Time for the Blue Stone Arts and Music Festival
The 2nd Annual Blue Stone Arts & Music Festival is back! Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28 in Sandy Springs! The two-day event will be held in the City Springs District which includes the City Green, Blue Stone Road, and the surrounding area. The festival will welcome more than 10,000 people, feature multiple music stages, an Artist Market with more than fifty vendors, Kids Zone and more! Top national musical acts, including Lonestar and Spin Doctors, will perform nightly. Admission is FREE for this family-friendly event. Learn more at the festival's website.

Why take your dog for a walk when you can take them for a fun run instead? The Blue Stone 5K-9 will be a pawsome event happening during the Blue Stone Art and Music Festival. Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are welcome with or without a furry friend! The route is a primarily flat road race, down and back route. The City is proudly expanding Veterans Park to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. In collaboration with the Sandy Springs Foundation, the City invites the community to contribute to this enduring tribute through the purchase of personalized pavers, park benches, two iconic sculptures, and general contributions. The Sandy Springs Safety Action Plan aims to decrease fatal and severe injury crashes by analyzing comprehensive crash data to identify high-crash locations. Preparation for Dog Park Improvements
Work will begin mid-September to divert water run-off from the hill above the dog park. The work will include excavation and grading. Fixing the grade requires tree removal. The construction will take approximately 6-8 weeks, weather permitting. During this time the park will be closed. Addressing the drainage challenge is a pre-requisite to future aesthetic and operational improvements scheduled for the park.

Adaptive Kayaking
Join us on September 5 and 9 from 6-8 p.m. at the boat ramp at Morgan Falls Overlook Park for an evening on the river. Our program, in partnership with Catalyst Sports, allows participants to get out on the water and experience the maximum amount of independence while soaking in the sights and sounds of nature. Their lead kayak instructors are trained in ACA Adaptive Paddling and have the ability to adapt the kayaks with additional equipment to accommodate a variety of needs.

Native American Trails & Pioneer Tales – Sept. 10 from 7-9 p.m.
While most people living in Sandy Springs today are relatively recent arrivals, this area has actually been continuously inhabited since 6000 BC. Local historian, Clarke Otten, will tell stories of the various peoples who called this region home, starting with the indigenous residents. He will also discuss the history of colonial settlers from the first known European explorer, Hernando de Soto up to 1800. .

Did you know a group of hummingbirds is called a charm, that they can fly in any direction or that they are the smallest migrating bird? Roseanne Guerra, Master Birder and GA Bird lecturer will explore all things hummingbird with us. Roseanne will focus on hummingbirds worldwide and then zoom in on Georgia hummers, including our mysterious winter hummers. Learn all about which feeders and native plants are the best for attracting hummingbirds to our yards!

Predating pottery, this kind of basket weaving is one of the oldest forms of artmaking! In this workshop, you will learn how pine needle coiling is done, and what materials and supplies are needed to achieve this technique. You'll go home at the end of the day with your new basket and the skills and motivation to create more of these fun and functional weaving creations!
