Opening Hymn: Love Divine, All Loves Excelling This hymn is said to have been suggested by a "Song of Venus" from Dryden's King Arthur. It is one of 6,500 written by Charles Wesley, the "sweet singer of Methodism," who was skilled at interweaving literary and scriptural images.
Middle Hymn: Shall We Gather at the River Written during a time when an epidemic was claiming many lives in New York, Robert Lowry's hymn raised the question "Shall we meet again?" Lowry was pastor at Hanson Place Baptist Church in Brooklyn from 1861 to 1869 and collaborated on numerous hymn collections with William H. Doane.
The Anthem: How Can I Keep from Singing? by John Carter
The Communion Anthem: Jesus My Lord, My Life, My All by Bob Burroughs
Closing Hymn: Thank Our God for Sisters, Brothers This hymn was written for a Union Thanksgiving service in 1948 by the Rev. Roger Powell of Camillus, NY. It served as a rallying song for the first meeting of the National Council of Churches in 1952.

DATES FOR NEXT CUBA VISIT CHOSEN
We are excited to report that thus far seven Northminster members and friends have committed to our next visit to our partner church in Cuba. In discussion among ourselves and in consultation with our Cuban friends, the dates of January 24-31 of next year have been agreed upon. Because it is not possible to get to Cuba from Monroe and return in one day, January 25-30 will be the actual days we are in Cuba. We know that as usual a full schedule of activities will await us, including our celebration of the 30th anniversary of our partnership.
If you are interested in joining this group and the dates work for you, please let DH Clark or Craig Henry know as soon as possible. Our Cuban friends will need to apply for our Cuban visas by mid November and will need passport information for that purpose. Also, if you would like more information about the cost, probable activities, etc. please talk to DH or Craig.

Detainee Aid Group
More involvement is needed in this important mission! If anyone missed their opportunity to get in on this ground level chance to do some good works by driving or delivering meals, etc., now would be a good time to contact Mara Loeb to inquire how you can help. Spanish language skill a bonus but not required. If anyone would like to support this mission with funds, instead of physically helping, you may make a check payable to Northminster Church and memo line "Immigration" or via our PayPal link with the same memo.
