Know about our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan at Sci-ROI's flagship 7th Annual Event, Sci-ROI 2022.

When?

Dr. Soumya Swaminathan is currently serving as the Chief Scientist at the World Health Organization (WHO). She is a paediatrician and a clinical scientist known for her work on tuberculosis and HIV.Dr. Swaminathan has served in various important positions, such as Coordinator of the UNICEF/ UNDP/ World Bank/ WHO Special Program for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, Director of the NIRT, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Secretary of the Department of Health Research (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) for the Govt. of India.

Before joining her current position as Chief Scientist at WHO, Dr. Swaminathan also served as the Deputy Director-General of the WHO. In her current role at WHO, she was instrumental in guiding the world through the COVID-19 pandemic.Make use of this unique opportunity to learn from the vast experience of Dr. Swaminathan when she will be addressing the Indian STEM diaspora in our annual event.

The new addition to the Sci-ROI Annual Event 2022 are career fair booths. This session will include organizations in India having their own booths/breakout rooms, where they will talk about the job positions available for them to offer and interact with interested attendees to answer any questions they have about the application process and the benefits associated with the job.

17 participating organizations from India are from the diverse fields of academia, industry, as well as non-traditional careers such as science communication. This diversity will help the attendees to explore various career options available for them in India. Volunteer's Corner
Dr. THIYA MUKHERJEE
Thiya is a plant scientist by profession and by name (Thiya from Thea chinensis). Currently, she is working as a Research Scientist at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, Saint Louis, MO. Here she studies, soybean seed metabolism and how we can tweak various complex pathways there in, to have a more sustainable and high-yielding plant oil and protein source.

Thiya is a Sci-ROI Global team volunteer 2022 and serving towards fundraising and social media campaigns. She is enthusiastic and always looking forward to learning from the excellent members and fellow volunteers of Sci-ROI team. Besides Science, Thiya is an avid badminton player.

Dr. TUHIN ROY
Tuhin is a Postdoctoral research fellow at North Carolina State University (NCSU) working in the Computational Mechanics field towards the estimation of arterial stiffness for the early detection of cardiovascular diseases. He received his Ph.D. degree in Structural Engineering & Mechanics and Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from NCSU. Prior to joining NCSU, Tuhin had an M.Tech degree in Structural Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur.

Tuhin is a Sci-ROI Global team volunteer 2022 and serving towards Outreach and Job-Portal/Funding Database management at Sci-ROI. During leisure time, he watches movies, web-series and documentaries.
