This coming Sunday, July 6, I am starting a new Sunday School option. This class will be centered around Bible basics and Church basics. It has been designed specifically for those of you who have mentioned to me that you don’t feel like you know the Bible or the church as well as you’d like. I will be joined in teaching this class by Bob Trent, Darrell Cluck, Craig Henry, and DH Clark, and we will meet in the Sanctuary.

Our other two Sunday School classes as well as youth and children’s classes, will continue to meet as usual; this is simply an additional option. I hope those of you who want to learn a bit more or feel like you need a refresher will attend, and please don’t hesitate to invite your friends who might be interested in learning more about the Bible or the Church. The intention is to leave lots of time and space for questions and I really do want you to ask them! And if this class isn’t for you, please take advantage of the other two adult classes that will continue to meet.

Sunday’s topic is broad - the Bible! What makes it up, how it came to be, and the shorthand you need to know. I hope you’ll join us.

Our Worship in Song

The Opening Hymn: All My Hope on God is Founded British composer Herbert Howells studied with Charles V. Stanford at the Royal College of Music in London and later taught there. The tune was composed for an English school and was named for Howells' son who died in childhood.

The Middle Hymn: O Mighty God, When I Survey in Wonder Carl Boberg, a popular evangelical minister and teacher in Sweden wrote his poem "O Store Gud" in the summer of 1885. Several years later, he was surprised to hear it sung with this old Swedish melody, with which it has been associated ever since.

The Anthem: I Will Forever Sing by Benedetto Marcello and arranged by H. Robert James and adapted from Psalm 89.

The Communion Anthem: Jesus My Lord, My Life, My All by Bob Burroughs.

The Closing Hymn: What a Covenant In a letter to two grieving friends, A.J. Showalter quoted Deuteronomy 33:27, "...underneath are the everlasting arms." Showalter then wrote this music and the refrain and sent them to E.A. Hoffman to provide the stanzas.
