The Opening Hymn: Holy, Holy, Holy This hymn by Reginald Heber was published in a book of hymns for Banbury Parish Church in England. Nicaea, one of nearly 300 tunes by John Dykes, was named for the famous council that defined the doctrine of the Trinity.
The Middle Hymn: Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness This popular hymn by songwriter James Manley grew out of a sabbatical leave at the School of Theology at Claremont, CA. It was first sung at Waiokeola Congregational Church in Honolulu, after which Manley added the fourth stanza at the suggestion of a church member.
The Anthem: Breath on Me, Breath of God by Chaz Bowers and words by Edwin Hatch 1835 – 1889, alt.
The Communion Anthem: If Ye Love Me, Keep My Commandments taken from John 14:15-17 and written by Thomas Tallis.
The Closing Hymn: Come Now, Almighty God This anonymous English hymn to the Trinity was first published in George Whitefield's Collection, 1757. This tune was composed especially for this text by Giardini, who was a brilliant violinist.
