REQUIEM ON SUNDAY

On Sunday, March 15 at 4 PM, the Northminster Choir and friends will present a moving performance of Requiem by John Rutter at Northminster Church. Conducted by Dr. Deborah Chandler, the concert will feature choir, chamber orchestra, and organ in a powerful and reflective musical experience.

Composed in 1985, Rutter’s Requiem is one of the most beloved contemporary choral works. Unlike traditional Latin requiems, it blends English and Latin texts, combining the timeless beauty of sacred liturgy with passages from the Psalms and the Book of Common Prayer. The result is a deeply comforting work that emphasizes peace, hope, and eternal rest.

The Northminster Choir, joined by guest singers and instrumentalists, will bring this luminous composition to life under Dr. Chandler’s direction in the resonant setting of Northminster Church.

This performance will be streamed live on our YouTube channel at

This concert is free and open to the public. Invite your friends and family and come enjoy an inspiring afternoon of beautiful choral music.

MUSIC MINISTRY

OUR WORSHIP IN SONG

The Opening Hymn: I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say Horatius Bonar was one of the founders of the Free Church of Scotland. A man of wide scholarship and great devotion to his ministry, he wrote nearly one book a year, as well as some 600 hymns.

The Middle Hymn: Softly and Tenderly Will Thompson established publishing firms in Chicago and East Liverpool, Ohio, the community to which he left a legacy of song. Dwight L. Moody once remarked that he would rather have written "Softly and Tenderly" than anything he had ever done.

The Anthem: Out of the Deep” from Requiem by John Rutter. Mark McCleery, cello.

The Communion Anthem:  Lord, In You Have I Trusted by Tomás Luis de Victoria

The Closing Hymn: O God, How We Have Wondered The tune for this contemporary text appears five times in J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion, and first appeared as a hymn setting in the early 1800's. It has an eumenical history reaching back many centuries. Orininally it was a German love song.

One thing we owe to Our Lord is never to be afraid. To be afraid is doubly an injury to Him. Firstly, it means that we forget Him; we forget He is with us and is all powerful; secondly, it means that we are not conformed to His will; for since all that happens is willed or permitted by Him, we ought to rejoice in all that happens to us and feel neither anxiety nor fear. Let us then have the faith that banishes fear. Our Lord is at our side, with us, upholding us. - From Meditations of a Hermit by Charles de Foucauld

Put yourself completely under the influence of Jesus, so that He may think His thoughts in your mind, do his work through your hands, for you will be all-powerful with Him to strengthen you. - From A Gift for God by Mother Teresa
