Three years ago today, you called me to be your Senior Pastor. I remember the day clearly because I was so hopeful you would feel about me as I felt about you - that this was the place God was calling me to be - and because it was my birthday. Talk about the best birthday present!
Looking back, it feels like I’ve been here longer than three years. Honestly, it feels like I’ve always been here, getting to love you weird, sometimes messy, generous, wonderful group of misfits who’ve come together to create this special place. Like many of you, I was looking for Northminster long before I found it. And though I learned and loved my time in my other calls, I am most fully myself here, with you.
There has been some significant change at Northminster since 2022. We’ve lost good people and welcomed a bunch of new folks! We’ve seen a resurgence in our children and youth programs (thank you, teachers and parents). We’ve navigated what it looks like for the Senior Pastor to be on maternity leave and a new mom - something more churches should do, but choose not to. We’ve had lectures and concerts, fish fries, and Fall Follies. We’ve learned and grown, and worshiped well.
Now we’re making decisions about more building space the Northminster way - thoughtfully, humbly, and responsibly. Not because we need to be showy - the new building plan is quite simple - but because we’re bursting at the seams! What an incredible problem we get to address, and one I wouldn’t have predicted in 2022.
I can’t tell you how thankful I am for Northminster and all of you. Even if I weren’t your Senior Pastor, this is the place I would want to be, where I would want to serve, and you are the people I would choose to walk alongside Erich and me as we raise Robyn and Eirinn.
I’ve mentioned before that in my first meeting with Welton, I told him finding Northminster felt like coming home. I didn’t know at the time he’d written a book about the history of Northminster with the title, Coming Home. I’ll never forget the twinkle in his eyes and his loving smile in response to my statement. I think he knew this was my place as it was his.
It is my honor to be allowed to be your Pastor. Here’s to many more years!
-Jillian

Opening Hymn: Sing Praise to God, Our Highest Good Johann Jakob Schütz practiced both civil and canon law in Frankfurt, Germany, throughout his life. He had an interest in the company that purchased land in Germantown, PA, from William Penn in 1683. Schütz published two collections of hymns.
The Middle Hymn: Listen to Your Savior Call William Cowper was trained as a barrister. He suffered from severe depression, but during a time of wellness he wrote this hymn based on John21:15 – a dialogue between Jesus and the individual. Set to the tune ORIENTIS PARTIBUS, a French melody, early 13th c. and arr. For congregational singing by Richard Redhead in 1853.
The Anthem: Where Shall I Go From Your Spirit? based on Psalm 139 by Kenney Potter.
The Communion Anthem: God Be in My Head, an old English Prayer, by John Rutter.
The Closing Hymn: Lead On Eternal Sovereign At Andover Seminary, fellow students asked Ernest W. Shurtleff to write a hymn for their graduation. This is the result. Shurtleff became a Congregational minister and in his last years established churches in Europe and did relief work during WWI.

GOOD LUCK TO ANGELA BOATENG AND KWABENA ADDY!
Northminster members Angela and Kwabena, have both completed their master degrees and have moved on to "greener" pastures. Angela has moved to Kansas City, MO and Kwabena has moved to Cincinnati, OH. Both expressed their appreciation to the Northminster family for welcoming them and playing a big part in their lives and both conveyed how much they will miss us. They will be sorely missed at Northminster and we wish them both the very best life has to offer!

SUNDAY YOUTH MEALS
(OR FUNDS) NEEDED!
The Northminster Youth Group meets each Sunday at 5pm and averages approximately 10 youth. Youth leaders try to stretch the budget to provide Sunday evening meals for them. There is a sign-up sheet in the hall for those willing to help provide actual meals such as sandwiches, pizza, tacos, burgers/hotdogs, chips, drinks, etc. Speak with JK Kimble or Beth Mayfield about what would be needed should you wish to provide an actual meal one Sunday evening.
Another great way to help with this, if you're not the "cooking kind", you may give financially. If giving cash, place in an envelope and mark it "Youth Meals" and if writing a check make payable to Northminster Church and memo line "Youth Meals". You may also use our Paypal account, Northminster Baptist Church and comment "Youth Meals".
| | If you currently serve as a Worship Leader or are interested in reading or serving communion in the future, this brief training will prepare you for that task. We encourage present and future worship leaders to remain after worship this Sunday for this training session! | | | |
We congratulate and recognize the Class of 2025 this Sunday!
