TWO REMARKABLE OPPORTUNITIES COMING UP
Please Don’t Miss Them!
We are fortunate to have two remarkable opportunities coming up at Northminster. The first is tomorrow night, Friday, May 23 at 7 pm in our sanctuary when virtuoso violinist QING LI will present an hour-long concert. Ms Li has performed to rave reviews at Northminster previously and will again be appearing through the auspices of the Piatigorsky Foundation of New York. You won’t want to miss this wonderful concert.
Astonishing for her musical versatility, violinist Qing Li brings technical brilliance, poise and insight to her music making. Hailed for her “highest level musicality,” she serves as Principal Violinist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and is a Professor of Violin at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. A sought-after soloist, Ms. Li frequently appears with the BSO and other orchestras across the U.S. and Asia.
Ms Li will be accompanied by Korean pianist MIN YOUNG PARK who has earned broad recognition for her artistry. Min Young was awarded First Prize at the Chopin National Competition in Korea at the age of thirteen, and two years later, she won First Prize at the Asia Chopin International Competition in Japan. She has continued to win numerous prizes and has appeared with orchestras in the U.S. and Asia.
You can read more about these artists and about the Piatigorsky Foundation on Northminster’s website. We have been privileged to have numerous Piatigorsky Foundation artists appear at Northminster over the past years.

Our second opportunity will be on Saturday morning, May 31 when Rev. Dr. Meredith Stone will present the Frank and Evelyn Stagg Lectures in Prophetic Christianity at Northminster. Dr. Stone is the Executive Director of Baptist Women in Ministry. Her lectures are entitled “Prophetically Responding to Christian Patriarchy in the US Today”. Beginning at 10:00 am there will be two lectures of about forty-five minutes each with a pause for refreshments between the lectures. The lectures should end by noon. There will be a time for coffee, juice and breakfast goodies beginning at 9:15 am. The lectures will also be live streamed and archived on Northminster’s YouTube channel. Dr. Stone will also preach in our service of worship on Sunday, June 1.
Meredith Stone has served as Executive Director of Baptist Women in Ministry since 2020. She is an ordained minister and has previously served as Associate Dean for Academics and Assistant Professor of Scripture & Ministry at Logsdon Seminary of Hardin-Simmons University, in congregational ministry, and with other Baptist organizations. Meredith received both her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Hardin-Simmons University, and earned a Ph.D. in Biblical Interpretation from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University. Meredith is the author of Empire and Gender in LXX Esther (SBL Press, 2018), along with other academic publications and articles related to women in ministry and religious gender justice. Meredith’s advocacy for women among Baptists has been featured in national news outlets such as CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, NPR, and Religion News Service. She lives in Waco, Texas, with her husband James and their children.
You can read more about Frank and Evelyn Stagg and their relationship with Northminster and about this lectureship on Northminster’s website.

Opening Hymn: We Worship You, God Born in Bengal, India, Robert Grant became a lawyer in England, a member of Parliament, and for the last four years of his life was governor of Bombay. This text was inspired by William Kethe's paraphrase of Psalm 104.
The Middle Hymn: God Our Author and Creator In 1985, a hymn competition was held to commemorate the centennial of the Women's Missionary Union of the SBC. This winning text by Carl Daw, Jr. fulfilled the guideline that the hymn address mission in the context of daily life.
The Anthem: The Majesty and Glory of Your Name by Tom Fettke. Text by Linda Lee Johnson and based on Psalm 8.
The Communion Anthem: Lord, In You Have I Trusted by Thomás Luis de Victoria.
The Closing Hymn: Guide My Feet The words and music of some African-American spirituals have been widely adapted during the 20th century, especially in the civil rights movement of the 1960's. The alternate words were suggested by a fifth-grade church school class to include those who must "run this race" in a wheelchair.

SUNDAY YOUTH MEALS
(OR FUNDS) NEEDED!
The Northminster Youth Group meets each Sunday at 5pm and averages approximately 10 youth. Youth leaders try to stretch the budget to provide Sunday evening meals for them. There is a sign-up sheet in the hall for those willing to help provide actual meals such as sandwiches, pizza, tacos, burgers/hotdogs, chips, drinks, etc. Speak with JK Kimble or Beth Mayfield about what would be needed should you wish to provide an actual meal one Sunday evening.
Another great way to help with this, if you're not the "cooking kind", you may give financially. If giving cash, place in an envelope and mark it "Youth Meals" and if writing a check make payable to Northminster Church and memo line "Youth Meals". You may also use our Paypal account, Northminster Baptist Church and comment "Youth Meals".
