Greenlight Innovation Fund RFP
New York City Economic Development Corporation (“NYCEDC”), is launching the Greenlight Innovation Fund (“Fund”) Request for Proposals to provide City capital funding (“City Capital”) for the development of facilities in New York City that support the Green Economy, Life Sciences, and Advanced Technology (collectively, the “Innovation Industries”).
NYCEDC has an initial allocation of up to $50 million of City Capital dollars for the Fund and intends to make multiple awards of at least $3 million per project. These awards are intended to grow and diversify the Innovation Industries that are critical to the success of New York’s economy.
This Request for Proposals (“RFP”) seeks to identify promising facilities development or improvement proposals (“Programs”) that are eligible to receive City Capital funding. The Fund is limited to Programs on one site initiated by nonprofit entities on privately-owned property. The Fund will provide City Capital for specific projects (“Projects”) that are part of the overall Program—a Project must consist of one of the following: the acquisition of real property, construction of facilities, or the purchase of equipment. NYCEDC generally seeks to fund no more than 50% of the total Program cost.

A Climatetech Leader Passes the (Energy-Efficient) Torch
Pat Sapinsley is stepping down from her leadership role at the Urban Future Lab after ten years. In 2009, when NYU Tandon (then known as the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering) joined forces with the New York State Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to launch an incubator program aimed at nurturing start-ups working to find clean-energy solutions, it made headlines across the city.

Gotham Innovation Gambit as a National Model: Presentation at GCEC Conference | In early October, Ariella Trotsenko, Director of the NY Innovation Hot Spot at CUNY, and Cira Cardaci, Manager of the NY I-Corps Hub, presented at the Dallas annual conference of the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers (GCEC), a leadership organization addressing issues facing the country’s leading university-based centers for entrepreneurship. The conference attracted more than 700 attendees representing 250 universities. | |
New York Consortium Wins $40M from CHIPS Act | |
The funding for the New York consortium, which also includes the University at Albany, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Cornell University and IBM, is among the first grants to be awarded under the $52 billion CHIPS and Science Act authored by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer of New York and signed into law last year. Albany Nanotech is owned and operated by NY CREATES, a state-run nonprofit. | |

Exostellar, a cloud resource optimization and management platform, is on the trajectory to be a star in the tech startup world. The Rev Alumni Stardom company, founded by Cornell University computer science professor Hakim Weatherspoon recently announced a successful $15 million Series A round — bringing Exostellar’s valuation to $40 million.
