Music News!

Chorus and band students have been working hard to prep for our concert that is coming up on May 31st! Students in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade have been talking all about instruments. We went on a scavenger hunt around the room to recognize different instruments and then we placed them into their instrument families! We will continue talking about instrument after break and to end our unit, the students will get to draw out their own invented instrument. Third graders have one more recorder belt to earn when we get back from April break! We will be learning "Old MacDonald Had a Farm". Our 4th graders will continue on their guitar, piano and Chromebook rotation. I hope you have a great April Vacation! Helping to Build a Friendly Environment
One of our core beliefs at Narragansett Elementary School is to assure a safe, o rderly environment conducive to learning that is based on trust, decency, courtesy, and mutual respect.

To help us maintain this goal, some of the fourth grade students made a list of behaviors that may make others feel uncomfortable. We would like to share this list with you in the hopes that our parents and caregivers will help support this initiative at home.
Eye rolling
Unfriendly faces
Laughing at someone
Gossiping
Running away from someone who is approaching
Whispering in front of others
Eavesdropping
Screaming/yelling
Name calling
Excluding
Contributing to or starting rumors
Passing notes
Putting someone in the middle of a controversy
Lying
Unkind text messaging
Being bossy

Although this list is not complete, it is a good starting place for constructive conversations.  It is a delicate balance making sure young people feel safe and respected while developing strategies to implement in difficult interactions with others .
Please do not hesitate to call or email if you have any further questions.
