Sci-ROI initiative
Sci-ROI is coming up with a series of in-depth webinars on early career fellowships for anyone who is looking to transition to Indian academia. These webinars will have talks from successful grant applicants in Indian Institutes. They will be sharing their grant application process followed by a Panel discussion including representatives from Host Institutes and Funding agencies. If you have any questions on early career transitions or re-entry funding opportunities, these webinars will answer them all!

The first webinar from the series will be held on 3rd April 2021 on DST-Inspire Faculty Fellowship. Visit www.sciroi.net for more information.
Dr. Sriram's view on networking -
"Sci-ROI brought me in contact with a group/community of people who were in a similar situation as I was. Any kind of transition is challenging to make, hence it is good to have a ready network. This network also assists me in keeping in touch with mainstream science. I have a sense of what is going on, what are the difficulties and opportunities, and what can be done due to the network."

Sci-ROI is inviting members to write blog articles with a focus on STEM sectors in India. We are looking at several ideas such as - New Faculty transition, Established Scientists in Indian academics, Current STEM events, Cutting edge Research in Indian Academia or Industry, Online STEM education, Creative STEM ventures, Start-up stories, Unique Careers and many more.

If you have any idea or unique story which you want to share with our members. please pitch them by writing to us at:

Volunteer's Corner
KANIKA KHANNA
I am currently a postdoc in Stanford University investigating the gut microbiome and their impact on the host. I obtained my PhD in 2020 from UCSD where I investigated the workings of macromolecular complexes in bacteria using cryo-electron microscopy.

In 2013, I found a life-long mentor in Prof. Aseem Ansari when I was awarded the Khorana scholarship. That's how I was acquainted with Sci-ROI. In 2020, I attended Sci-ROI’s virtual annual meeting and was instantly taken by the idea of connecting the Indian diaspora to peers at home. I became eager to contribute to this budding organization which has the potential to make great strides in not only helping to foster connections between the Indian diaspora to professional opportunities in India but also showcase and critically empower the science and technology sector in India to the rest of the world.

With this thought in mind, I organized the "Cryo-electron microscopy in India" webinar with Sci-ROI in December 2020 to engage students and post-docs carrying out cryo-EM research abroad in a dialogue with the cryo-EM community in India. I officially joined the core team in Feb 2021 to as a part of the blogging and the social media team.
