PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
World Tournament Texas, Council Updates & News

We had a change in our NHPA Council this past couple of months. Gary Roberts your 1st VP had to step down for personnel reasons. Per the By-Laws, outlined in ARTICLE V Section 10 (Vacancies in office), it says, any vacancies in office, except that of President, shall be filled within thirty (30) days, by the President, and with a majority approval of the Executive Council.

The Council is pleased to announce that Brian Poole from Idaho has been appointed to 1st VP effective immediately! Brian's roles and responsibilities will be the same except Gary Roberts will oversee the international affairs for promoting horseshoes reporting to the President.
The Council welcomes Brain to the NHPA Council. We look forward to working with Brian.
The Council would also like to thank Gary Roberts for all his work while serving on the Council. We know Gary isn't going away but will be deeply missed on the Council. Best of luck to you and your family!

With leagues starting soon for many Charters, the Council expects each one of you to do your part in growing our sport by signing up new members. It's "all" of our responsibility, so let's turn this declining membership trend around and start seeing positive numbers. Charter Secretaries, please remember to get your list of new members to Laura Lampkin (2nd VP). She is directing the new membership committee in charge of sending out new member packages.

Congratulations to Paul LaCrosse, Truman Standard, Phyllis Quist, and Harry Haynes who will be inducted into the National Horseshoe Pitching Association Hall of Fame this year at the 2019 W.T. Hall of Fame Banquet in Wichita Falls, TX. Paul LaCrosse will be inducted into the "Player Category", Truman Standard in the "Historic Era". Phyllis Quist and Harry Haynes in the "Promoter/Organizer" category. The NHPA Council would like to thank Vicki Winston for the great job she is doing directing the HOF Committee.

For those of you who did not attend last's years Delegate meeting, the Council requested for an emergency By-Law change consisting of the voting process for future World Tournament Sites. After much decision and taken to a vote on the floor, the delegates approved that the NHPA Council will oversee handling the voting and approving of each future World Tournament site.

The Council is pleased to announce that Winnemucca, NV will be hosting the 2021 World Tournament. The dates will be July 19th - July 31st, 2021. The event will be held at the Winnemucca Events Complex. We had two cities to choose from with Mobile AL being the other site. We have been told that Mobile will continue to try for 2022. We would like to thank Garrett Wagner and Patty Kieffer for their work in trying to get the World Tournament to their city.

Positions up for election this year consist of the 1st and 3rd VP's. Both Brian Poole and Jerry Smith have met the By-Laws for getting their intentions to run for another term by the deadline. No other candidates submitted their intentions to run for one of these positions by the April 1st deadline therefore by rule of Acclamation (per Roberts Rules) both individuals will retain their positions for another 3-year term. The official announcement will be made at the meeting.

The 2019 World Horseshoe Tournament will be held July 22nd - August 3rd, 2019 at the Ray Clymer Exhibit Hall and the Kay Yeager Coliseum (NPEC) in Wichita Falls, TX. Members who are interested in attending should go on-line and fill out the entry form and make your motel reservations. Many of you have asked me if we were planning on having the same format and schedule. It is our intentions not to change anything currently however each year is a challenge when working with different groups in different locations.

The Council would like to thank all the Charters who provided nomination letters for individuals who they feel deserve to receive an NHPA Achievement Award. The NHPA Council will be reviewing the applications and the recipient/s who will be receiving this award will be contacted and the presentations will be done at the Hall of Fame Banquet in Wichita Falls, TX.

In conclusion, I believe it is going to be another great year for horseshoes. The Council is really hoping for a great turn out at Wichita Falls, TX for the 2019 World Horseshoe Pitching Championships!

Enjoy your Spring/Summer, look forward to seeing you all in Texas.

Thank You.
Stu

First Vice President's Final Report
by Gary Roberts, 1st Vice President

As many are aware, I recently resigned my position as First Vice President of the NHPA. The resignation had nothing to do with a lack of enthusiasm or dissatisfaction with the position. The primary reason was a lack of time to perform my duties. I am currently the Director of Operations for six Federally Qualified Health Centers in Southern Ohio. My typical workday is 10 to 12 hours. In addition, we have several new projects in the works. At the same time, my wife had some unexpected health problems. Fortunately, she is doing much better. Many hours per week are needed to properly perform the tasks of the office of First Vice President.

I will still be involved in assisting the NHPA as needed and I am willing to serve on the Rules Committee if requested. I will also continue to serve on the Hall of Fame Committee. I will continue my efforts to promote horseshoe pitching on the international level. Plans for trips to South Africa and Namibia are in progress.

President Sipma has appointed Brian J. Poole to replace me. I am sure that Brian will work hard to complete the important duties of this position.

I, along with all of you, am gravely concerned about the future of our sport. Yet another decline in membership occurred in 2018. We need to work together with tact and diplomacy to address this problem. Referring to NHPA officers as incompetent and uncaring does not constitute constructive criticism. If you are one of the people who have all of the answers, I suggest you consider running for one of the offices.

In closing, I would like to thank those who felt I was worthy to serve as First Vice President. I will continue to support the NHPA in every way possible.

Introduction: Brian Poole
by Brian Poole, newly appointed 1st Vice President

I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself, so you can learn a little more about me and my hobbies and interests.

I grew up in Rigby, Idaho on a farm/ranch. My dad raised beef cattle, pigs, and chickens.  I spent my summers irrigating hay, barley, pasture and doing chores. I graduated from Rigby High school and then I got my Engineering Degree from Idaho State University.  I currently live in Pocatello; Idaho and I am a Civil Engineer for the State of Idaho. I have worked for the Idaho Transportation Department for 31 years.

I love doing anything outdoors.  Camping, hunting, golfing, horseshoe pitching, snowboarding, snowmobiling, fishing, and spending time with my wife, kids and grandkids.  I started pitching horseshoes in 2004 when NHPA World Tournament came to Pocatello. I have been to 8 World Tournaments total including the last 6 in a row.

I have been married to my wife Melanie for 38 years.  Horseshoe pitching is a sport we enjoy doing together and has taken us to places that have been fun to explore and pitch at.  We have 4 children and 11 grandchildren that call me "Papa".

I am a high school referee for volleyball, football, basketball, baseball & softball.  I loved playing them and now I love to officiate them.

I am a member of the Pebble Creek Ski Patrol and love to snowboard and help keep people safe on the slopes.  I also work for Pebble Creek snow sports teaching snowboarding and skiing.
I enjoy attending the World Horseshoe Tournaments and in helping with scorekeeping and judging.  I enjoy coming back each year and seeing all my horseshoe pitching friends and making new ones.

I look forward in helping as an NHPA officer and promoting this sport.  I hope that as we pitch together we will be professional in our local tournaments.  If you have conflicts or questions about rules, please feel free to contact me.

I would like to invite all who are interested in judging to attend one of the Judging Clinics to learn the rules and help us with running a professional tournament at Wichita Falls.

I have submitted my request for the 1st VP ballot and would love your support at the Delegate meeting.  Please come by and introduce yourself to me at Wichita Falls. Looking forward to seeing you at the courts!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Election Announcement

I am submitting my request to be a candidate for the 1st VP position for NHPA.   I became a member of NHPA in 2004 when the World Tournament came to Pocatello, Idaho. I have loved playing this sport since I was little on camping trips and family reunions and my love for the sport has grown since joining NHPA in 2004.

I was the Idaho State President from 2007-2018 and enjoyed being involved in the State tournaments and promoting horseshoes in Idaho. I love traveling and playing horseshoes wherever I go in Idaho and surrounding states. I have played in Arizona, Utah, and Idaho and last year played in the Horseshoe Tour Event in Winnemucca, Nevada. What a fun format and group of people to rub elbows with in qualifying and participating in that tournament.
Horseshoes is now a part of my life and will be as long as I am able to participate and would love to be involved and represent you as the 1st VP.

I have been a participant at 8 World Tournaments including the last 6. I have enjoyed helping to judge and score keeping during the last six World Tournaments and this last year helping in the Stat Room setting up computers and other tasks. As the Idaho President I had the opportunity to be a State Delegate and participate in the meetings at World Tournaments. I have a good knowledge of the rules and how they affect horseshoes and look forward in working with the committee to keep improving them for the good of the game.

I would like your vote from your Delegates and I will work hard in keeping integrity and poise in looking at rule changes for NHPA and look forward in being your next 1st VP.

Thanks for your consideration as your next 1st VP for NHPA.

2020 & 2021 WT Site Booths Worth A Visit
by Laurie Lampkin

July 13-25, 2020 - The 2020 World Tournament will be held in Monroe/West Monroe, LA. The Monroe Convention Visitors Bureau, Scott Bruscato and his staff will be at Wichita Falls. You can stop by their booth and get lots of information on the Facility, Area Maps, Airlines, Rental Car Companies, Uber, Lyft, Hotels, Shopping, RV and Camping Sites and Amenities, Restaurants, Casinos, and many sites to see and visit. We are also working on inviting "Duck Dynasty" to the Tournament as well. We are hoping that Phil Robinson, the matriarch and his family, will come on Sunday to be a part of our church service and give the sermon. "Fingers Crossed". Monroe will be a fun time for sure. " laissez le bon temps rouler " (Let the good times Roll)

July 13- August 1, 2021 - Winnemucca, NV will be the host of the 2021 World Tournament. Kim Petersen and his staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may regarding the area and the Event Center, Airlines, Rental Car Companies, Ube, Lyft, Casino's, Hotels, Restaurants, Shopping, RV and Camping locations. Tours of a nearby open-pit gold mine, gambling tournaments, wine tasting/wine walk, themed luncheons with historic guest speakers like Mark Twain or Sarah Winnemucca or a Cowboy poet, shopping excursions, museum visit, golf tournament or trap shoot. Kids will enjoy a comprehensive game room set up at the Events Complex, ice cream socials, nature hikes, cosmic bowling night and more.

It's always good to be prepared in advance, so we suggest that you make a check list of questions and/or concerns of anything that you may want to ask each location. This will prepare you in advance of any special accommodations you may require once you arrive. As an example, if you or a family member has any medical situations, you may ask about the nearest medical facilities, or the nearest pharmacy.

The 2022 Bidding has begun, and I will be attending four Sports Conferences this year instead of the normal three. Already, I have meetings set up with Bloomington, MN, St. Charles, MO, Indianapolis, IN, Cincinnati, OH, Colorado, Lincoln Nebraska to mention a few.

I look forward to seeing everyone at Wichita Falls, and wish everyone safe travels.

2018 Season "Top ten" lists
by Jerry Smith, 3rd Vice President

It is time to present the "Top Ten" lists of the 2018 league pitching season. I would like to begin by stating some league issues that slow down the "Top Ten" process in particular and the correct reporting to NATSTATS in general. I will repeat some of last year's comments because the problems still exist. Remember the old computer adage which states, "garbage in, garbage out". This old comment is so appropriate when; league directors fail to report pitchers who have changed pitching categories, misspell names, mistype card numbers or report leagues that didn't even occur. The inappropriate reusing of NHPA card numbers is very problematic and must stop nationwide. Hear this loud and clear, THE NHPA DOES NOT REUSE CARD NUMBERS ANYMORE PERIOD. There is no reason under our current system to ever reuse a number. All of the above-mentioned problems happened again this year and all of these things had me scrambling to re-submit leagues to NATSTATS sometimes more than once. It is my plan output the "Top Ten" list quarterly and I failed to do that this year for various reasons, that was on me partly because there was no great way to publish it for league directors to see and check on. I will publish them this year starting after the WT. It will be on the webpage or e-blasted. As always, I wish to thank Kevin and Pat Snelgrove for their assistance and support. They maintain and upgrade my software and generally keep me on the straight and narrow.

All of that said, most of the league directors do a great job and I wish to thank all of you for your hard work and dedication. Without you people, leagues don't exist, and we lose our main portal to new membership. The NHPA (especially me) appreciates all you do.

It would be very helpful if league directors and/or charters would follow these simple suggestions.

1.  Include accurate pitching categories and card numbers on the final stats.
2.  Never reuse card numbers.
3.  Report changes in pitching categories to me and NATSTATS. In your reports to me, highlight the change and/or tell me in a comment.
4.  Double check your figures and if written, print neatly.
5.  Do not include handicaps in any of your data. Point categories mean points only.

Thanks for your consideration and it is my pleasure to present the 2018 Sanctioned League "Top Ten" awards lists. Let's get those leagues up and running, I need something to do LOL.

All Hands on Deck for World Tournament
by Dalton Rakestraw, 5th Vice President

The World Tournament is vastly approaching, and Wichita Falls is getting ready for the "invasion of the pitchers!" As the 5th Vice President, it is my job to oversee that the courts are set. We will begin that process on July 16, with all hands-on deck. The courts will be completed in time for the World Warm Up tournament on Saturday, July 20. Those wanting some additional practice or even some extra cash should come early and attend.

The Horseshoe Tour is now underway for the 2019, season. The first stop was back on April 13-14, in Newberry, SC. I was fortunate enough to win the 40' A group. Gary Opper, ID, and I had a great finals match that ended up in several down and backs. Congrats to Jim Ellison, AL, for winning the 30' A group. Weather was a factor, but we got the tournament completed and had a blast. The next stop is June 8-9 in Lowell, NC. Come on out and give the 30 shoe-ringers only a try!

The 2nd Annual Paul Stewart Invitational was last week April 27. The courts were in great shape and great competition. Carolyn Loyd and Paul Stewart were great hosts. Such a pleasure to pitch on courts that have history. Congrats to Cindy Hoffman, PA, for taking 30' Championship gold and once again I was fortunate enough to win the 40' championships. Congrats to all winners in both tournaments.

Patches are quickly going from my house. With tournaments now started and more patches requested, they are going, going, gone. The patch has been a staple for the NHPA for at least 30 years with little or no changes made to the design. Maybe we can debut a new patch design for 2020? If you have a design idea or layout, please email it to me. Would like to see some change and new ideas come about with the patch.

The Hall of Fame Invitational is this weekend May 4-5. Stay tuned to find out who the winners are and as always, I am looking forward to seeing everyone. RD's helping with shoe check and shift directing, the schedules are being made and will be sent. The new state officer patches are in and will be distributed at world. Safe travels to those in the world tournaments. I leave you with this thought, "is it better to be a big fish in a small pond, or a small fish in a big pond?"

Hall of Fame Inductees
by Vicki Winston

The Hall of Fame Committee recently completed the voting for 2019 and I am pleased to announce that we have elected four individuals to be inducted into the NHPA Horseshoe Pitching Hall of Fame at the banquet on the evening of July 28, 2019 in Wichita Falls, Texas. We have elected one Player, one Historic Era Player and two persons from the Promoter/Organizer category. I will give you a brief bit of information for each inductee and if you will be in Wichita Falls for the World Tournament, I hope you will attend the banquet to help honor the NHPA Hall of Fame Class of 2019.

Paul LaCrosse - Colorado

Paul has pitched horseshoes for many years and should now be a lifetime member of the NHPA. He made the World Tournament Men's Championship Finals ten times. In those ten appearances, he finished 4th two times, 5th four times and 6th one time. His ringer average for those ten appearances is 72.06%. He also appeared in the World Tournament Senior Men's Championship Finals three times and has a Championship and a second place finish in that event. He has won 23 Colorado Men's State Championships , has been a member of the winning team at the Team World Tournament in Beloit, WI 6 times and won the Six Pac Invitational Tournament in New Melle, MO one time. The Six Pac Invitational is what has transitioned into the Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament, which is now held at the NHPA & NHPF Hall of Fame complex in Wentzville, MO on the first weekend in May each year. Congratulations to Paul on his horseshoe pitching accomplishments and being elected to the HOF Class of 2019 in the Player category. Paul is planning to be in Wichita Falls for his induction ceremony.

Truman Standard - Illinois

Truman appeared in the Men's Championship Class of the World Tournament eight times. He was in it from 1953 thru 1958 and then his last two appearances were 1960 and 1962. During those eight appearances he placed 5th twice and 7th once. Those were the days of onsite qualifying and 50-point games. There aren't too many people around in this day and age who are still connected to our sport who actually saw Truman Standard pitch horseshoes. However, being pretty young at the time, I am one who saw him pitch in all but one of his World Tournament appearances. During a rain delay at a tournament in Greenville, OH, Gary Roberts remembers Truman getting his ukulele and entertaining the crowd until play could resume. Most years in that day and age the Men's Championship Class at a WT was a 36-man round robin competition, so the pitchers had to be in good shape to make it through all of the days of pitching 35 games that went to 50 points. Truman's ringer average for those 8 WT appearances was 73.50%. Truman was a three-time Illinois State Champion and was inducted into the Illinois Hall of Fame in 1981. In 1956 there was a Chicago television series called "Championship Horseshoes." He won three gold plated horseshoes on that show. He also appeared on the "Tonight Show" when it was hosted by Jack Parr. Truman passed away in 1982, but a member of our HOF Committee was able to locate his youngest daughter using Facebook. It has been an enjoyable experience talking with her on the phone and communicating by e-mail. She has a brother who is still living, and the family is excited about Truman being elected to the HOF in the Historic Era category. However, as of this writing I do not yet know if either of his children will be able to attend the banquet to accept the award and to tell us a little more about their dad.

Phyllis Quist - Washington

Phyllis is fondly known to her friends as Phyl. She and her husband, Jim, did not learn about the sport of horseshoe pitching in their earlier years, but when they were finally introduced to it, they were hooked for life. Not only did they enjoy pitching, they loved the people they were getting to know, and they began getting involved in promotion and organization as well as pitching. Phyl got involved with junior promotions and fund raisers to send juniors to the World Tournament and also to provide scholarships for higher education. She and Jim transported and chaperoned juniors to the WT four times. Phyl has held several positions as a charter officer and a club officer. She has been helping to keep the Pacific Northwest Association going and the Washington charter running smoothly. She has taken on the task of maintaining the Washington State Hall of Fame and Museum trailer. Phyl has been of service to the NHPA in many ways. She served on the rules rewrite committee that created the RGS book. For several years she chaired the annual State Officers meeting that is held during the WT. A few years ago, she accepted an appointment to serve as one of the directors of the NHPF and she attends the meeting they have every spring in Wentzville, MO while the HOF Invitational Tournament is being held. During a World Tournament you will find her working many shifts in the NHPF booth and always greeting people with a friendly smile. Ever since Phyl and Jim started attending the WT, you would see Phyl pitching in and doing any job that was needed at the WT site. All a council member had to do was ask and she was willing to go to work, if she didn't already have another assigned task or wasn't scheduled to be pitching. I know she has assisted shift directors and may have served as one herself when there weren't enough council members available. She does occasionally take a little time off to grab a bite to eat, but much of her time at a WT is spent helping wherever needed, be it day or night, and that includes in a scorekeeper's chair. Congratulations to Phyl on being elected to the HOF Class of 2019 in the Promoter/Organizer category. She and Jim are looking forward to being in Wichita Falls for the WT and the banquet.

Harry G. Haynes - Ohio

Harry is from way back in the early days of organized horseshoe pitching. Through the efforts of Harry G. Haynes of Akron, Ohio and Dr. E. C. Beach of St. Petersburg, FL. the National League of Horseshoe and Quoits Pitchers was formed on Feb. 26, 1919 and they held a national tournament in St. Petersburg with pitchers from 29 states in attendance. Horseshoe pitching was a popular sport in those days and thousands of people would gather to watch an event that featured some top pitchers from around the nation. Harry was elected the president of this new association. It was this organization that would bridge the gap between the Grand League American Horseshoe Pitchers Association and the present National Horseshoe Pitchers Association. Harry was one of the big wheels in Akron, as he was president of the Kenmore Banking Co. and vice president of the Akron Realty Co. Through his efforts the 1920 national tournament was awarded to Akron, Ohio and Harry sponsored this event. It was the only time a national tournament was held there. Harry was also one of the prominent men who met on October 29, 1919 in the office of the Akron Realty Company and organized the Buckeye Horseshoe Pitching Association of Ohio. This was the first state association of its kind in the United States and Harry was appointed to serve as a member of its Board of Directors. Some of the key people from that era have already been elected to the NHPA Hall of Fame and it is good we can now add Harry G. Haynes to the list in the Promoter/Organizer category. Not only did he give some personal financial support to our sport, he had a lot to do with getting our sport operating in a more organized manner and the eventual formation of the NHPA. He also assisted in the formation of our first State Charter. Note: We have not yet been able to locate any descendants of Harry G. Haynes of Akron, OH. We don't even know if there are any. If you have any information that can assist us in this search, please contact me. Thank you.

Nominations to be considered for the Hall of Fame are always welcome. Information and a printable Nomination Form are available on the Hall of Fame link of the NHPA website. Only a NHPA member or NHPA club can submit nominations. I know there are some deserving individuals who have not yet been nominated but have contributed much to the NHPA in the way of service and promotion. There are probably also some pitchers who might have been overlooked who have had outstanding achievements on the horseshoe courts at the national level. Please put on your thinking caps and see if you know some people who deserve to be added to the list of nominees. The deadline for nominations to be included in the 2020 voting is January 31, 2020.

NHPF Update
by Casey Sluys

We hope everyone had a great spring holiday and now is ready for some horseshoe pitching?  The longer than usual wet and snowy spell has caused the delay in many of our charters.  We would like to remind everyone that the NHPF has grants available to those who need to build, rebuild, or improve your court facilities.   Over $87,000 in grants have been issued by the National Horseshoe Pitchers Foundation. In 2003, the NHPF began issuing grants to construct or upgrade horseshoe pitching courts on public property. While currently capped at $3000, the Foundation is committed to supporting up to four (4) grant applicants per year. There is no legal obligation to repay the grant. However, the NHPF Directors may look more favorably upon those applicants who pledge to hold annual fund-raising events to donate something back, so the Foundation can continue to support other clubs and grow the grant amounts in the future.

The directors review Grant requests in the months of March and September each year. See website:     https://nhpfinfo.files.wordpress.com/2018/10/nhpfgrantapplication.pdf  If you need to speak with someone before filing out a grant form please call me at (707) 4767-8893 I will be happy to go over the criteria involved in applying for a grant.

Have you had a chance to visit your Hall of Fame in Wentzville MO yet. I encourage you to do so you will be pleasantly surprised.  Take a leisurely stroll around the grounds, read the inscriptions on the bricks in the Jack Freeman Memorial Plaza.  It may give you an idea for a brick of your own? All the bricks and their location can be located on the map directly to the left of the main entrance.  There will be a few phone numbers listed on the signage on the door or call this number and make an appointment for a guided tour.

Have you seen the great pitching videos that the HPO Facebook page does?  It's quick and gives you a great overview of many horseshoe courts throughout the US and Canada.  Even though this is all non-sanctioned an attempt is being made by a few people in the Northern CA Charter to sanction a 200-shoe pitching event.  Check out details on NCHPA fb page under the files section.  Unfortunately, the first such event will be history by the publishing deadline, BUT just in case it isn't May 12th when you receive this look for the details and rules on the aforementioned fb page.

This winter I did some state by state donation calculations and it figured out to be a fairly low ratio of members donating.  Just looking at the top 15 states, the number of donations per membership was only 23%.  That means there are 77% of the current NHPA membership that have not participated or made any sort of monetary commitment to your Hall of Fame and the preservation of our wonderful building.  There are many ways one can donated you can purchase a brick, you can donate cash directly from our website at: https://nhpf.info/ by using the donate button, you can send in a check to100 Bluestem Way Wentzville, MO 63385 OR you can stop by our table at the World Tournament to take a chance on many fine items that we will have there for a silent auction. We will have BANQUET tickets available there also along with a daily 50/50.  Look for us under this logo in Texas.  Stop by and visit we will answer your questions.
We thank Gary Buehler for his faithful effort for providing us with the following information every two months.

NatStats: All Trails Lead to Texas
by Mel Yockstick, World Statistician

When I was growing up I enjoyed listing to western music. One of my favorite songs was "Waltzing Across Texas" by Ernest Tubb. Yes, it was slow, and I could understand the words. Many horseshoe players will be doing just that, "Waltzing across Texas" to reach Wichita Falls to participate in the 102nd. World Tournament. By the time you read this I hope the WT in Texas has sets a new world record for highest attendants. As they say in Texas "You 'al come".

Rod Hagman (NHPA 4th. VP & NHPA Webmaster - IT Dir.) Has made some changes to the NHPA website World Tournament Stats.

Go to Recognition Then- World Tournament Stats.

1: World Tournament Stats (Yellow button) World Stats.

2: World Tournament Champions (Purple button) See World Champion by Division.

3. 40 Point Era (Yellow button) World Stats by division

Take a look at two charts:
  1. First chart will show Top WT winners holding 7 (Prelim or Championship) title wins or more. On the NHPA website you will find world players holding three (3) plus wins. You can find this file under - WT Stats (WT 3 plus wins).
  1. Second chart will show WT location with 20 + 90% championship games. What I find interesting is that
We haven't reach 20 or more 90% games over 9 years hence. You can find this file on the NHPA website - WT Stats - 90 PCT World Club.

Can Horseshoes become an Olympic Sport?
by Laurie Lampkin

This subject has been the chatter for many years amongst our members. All of us at some point and time have wondered how and why we do not attempt to become part of the US or International Olympics Committee. Not long ago, we had an inquiry asking about Horseshoes becoming a part of the Olympics on the NHPA Facebook page and Messenger. So, we contacted the International Olympic Committee to see what the process and requirements are for a sport to become be a part of the Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee sent a me a few documents that are several pages long. We are currently reading over the qualifications and requirements to become an Olympic Sport and if we can qualify or not considering the strict requirements.

Here is just a sample of the information in their documents:

To be recognized by the IOC, a sport must first of all be governed by an International Federation (IF). This is required in order to conform to the Rules of the Olympic Charter, the World Anti-Doping Code as well as the Olympic Movement Code on the Prevention of Manipulation of Competitions.
  • The Olympic Program Commission has the responsibility of analyzing the program of sports for both the Games of the Olympiad and Olympic Winter Games and forming proposals for consideration by the IOC Executive Board.
  • Olympic Agenda 2020 noted that "the Olympic program is the fundamental core of the Olympic Games as decisions regarding the program have an impact on virtually all other areas of the Olympic Games and Olympic Movement."
The responsibilities of the Olympic Program Commission are to:
  • Develop a program that maximizes the popularity of the Olympic Games while containing costs and complexity;

  • Respect the framework and principles outlined in Olympic Agenda 2020 recommendations 9, 10, and 11.
