Under fire nationally, opportunity zones slowly see support in ND

Opportunity zones, created to spur investment in economically distressed areas by offering tax incentives to investors, are just beginning to show signs of altering the development landscape in North Dakota...Brian Ritter, president of the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber Economic Development Corp., said his office held an informational seminar on opportunity zone investments, but has heard very little since. He is unaware of any funds or projects in development in Bismarck-Mandan under the program.
Unmanned Systems: Tools For A New Era in Energy

Big changes are underway in the energy industry. Over the next 20 years, most forecasts predict that wind, solar and natural gas will provide the bulk of new capacity, while coal will decline...Xcel will partner with Airtonomy, Microsoft, UND Aerospace Foundation, the North Dakota Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Plains UAS Test site to deploy multiple drones and field a pilot to inspect its Foxtail Wind Farm near Kulm, North Dakota.

Institute for Organization Management (Institute) is the premier continuing education experience for chamber professionals. Since 1921, the Institute program has educated and empowered chamber executives with the knowledge and skills they need to be leaders in their organizations and industry.

The Institute curriculum is comprised of four week-long sessions. Each session is five days and is offered at five locations across the country annually. With courses on topics such as advocacy, media training, membership, finance, legal issues, human resources, and much more, Institute ultimately educates participants on all facets of running an association. Elevate Rapid City: A unified vision of economic growth

In September, Tom Johnson was introduced as the new President and CEO of Elevate Rapid City...Elevate Rapid City is a joint venture between four leading private sector economic development groups: the Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce, Rapid City Economic Development Partnership, South Dakota Ellsworth Development Authority, and the Economic Development Foundation’s Ascent Innovation, all working together to achieve common goals.
Veterans Day Ceremonies Provided by The Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce

This Veterans Day the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce held ceremonies to honor those who fought for our freedom, and one woman there seemed to be especially moved by the program. Nancy Hone had a special bond with her father.
Project SEARCH visits the chamber

A group from the Wisconsin Rapids area Project SEARCH visited the Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce on Oct. 30 to present at “Coffee with the Chamber.” Project SEARCH is a program that works to train individuals with developmental disabilities for employment in the community.
Academy of Advanced Manufacturing trains veterans for career opportunities

When Rockwell Automation Inc. and ManpowerGroup set out in 2017 to recruit and train veterans for careers in advanced manufacturing, they committed to building a program ultimately aimed at closing a growing skills gap in the industry...“If businesses want to truly receive the benefits and contributions that come with employing smart, capable leaders with military experience, leaders in business need to truly invest in this talent group and match our stated commitment with our actions,” said Saul Newton, executive director at the Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce.

ProStart program highlights hospitality labor shortage, high school opportunities

Students are given the opportunity to enjoy personal and hands-on mentorship with industry professionals, while local businesses look to potentially address long-standing shortages in the labor force...In turn, Matt Kilian, president of the Brainerd Lakes Chamber of Commerce, challenged Anderson to facilitate a framework in St. Paul that promotes these partnerships and to do so quickly. “When you can remove a lot of bureaucratic barriers, things happen quickly,” Kilian said. “So, my advice is whatever you can do at the state level, make it simple as possible and get rid of as many hoops as possible, so we can incentivize some of these partners.”
Nebraska governor goes to Germany for a trade mission

Governor Ricketts met with government officials to Berlin, Germany for a trade mission...People on the mission include representatives from the Department of Economic Development, Department of Agriculture, Department of Environment and Energy, University of Nebraska, Nebraska Farm Bureau, Omaha Public Power District, Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, and several ag and manufacturing businesses.
Retired admiral takes university job interview to rural Nebraska

An East Coast fighter pilot with a background in oceanography now finds himself in position to lead a Midwest land-grant university...“We need that our community needs to increase our median household income and the way that happens is through education,” said Chamber President Cindy Johnson.
