Mitchell High School graduate launches youth leadership program in Brookings

A new program launched by a Mitchell native is hoping to get youth more interested in community leadership...Sonya Moller, director of the Mitchell Chamber of Commerce, said the organization is aware of the idea and looking into the possibility of bringing something similar to the community, but there is considerable organizing to do before such a project could launch.
Sioux Falls Chamber holds first 'Inside Washington' Forum

The Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce hosted its first "Inside Washington" Forum Tuesday, this time sitting down with Representative Dusty Johnson. The event was hosted at the Holiday Inn City Center and is the first of several with the South Dakota delegation. It's an opportunity for the community to learn about what is happening in Washington, D.C.

Institute for Organization Management (Institute) is the premier continuing education experience for chamber professionals. Since 1921, the Institute program has educated and empowered chamber executives with the knowledge and skills they need to be leaders in their organizations and industry.

The Institute curriculum is comprised of four week-long sessions. Each session is five days and is offered at five locations across the country annually. With courses on topics such as advocacy, media training, membership, finance, legal issues, human resources, and much more, Institute ultimately educates participants on all facets of running an association. Wauwatosa chamber names Joan Hansen new executive director, CEO

Joan Hansen is the new executive director and chief executive officer of the  Wauwatosa Chamber of Commerce , the group announced this week. Hansen succeeds former Wauwatosa mayor Terry Estness, who has been the chamber’s part-time director the last eight years, according to a news release.

Sioux Center Chamber to host CQ sessions

The Sioux Center Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Rahn Franklin, director of multicultural student development at Northwestern College in Orange City, to offer four sessions on CQ, or Cultural Intelligence, noon-1 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 17, Oct. 1, Oct. 15 and Oct. 29, at the Sioux Center Public Library.
Winona social studies teacher heads over to Benchmark for week

Ross Freeman-Herdina, a social studies teacher at Winona Senior High School, recently took a week this summer to experience a world outside of the classroom, immersing himself instead in Winona’s Benchmark facilities. By participating in the Winona Area Chamber of Commerce’s Teacher in the Workplace program, a part of the chamber’s Business Education Network, Freeman-Herdina was able to see, experience and learn about different aspects of the local branch of the worldwide company.
University of Minnesota's first female president begins job

Weeks into her tenure, University of Minnesota President Joan Gabel urged a nearly all-female audience Monday, Aug. 12, to decide for themselves what it means to succeed. “It is very, very tempting when you are not in the majority … to then overachieve in order to represent the ability to do so,” she said at a Minnesota Chamber of Commerce Women in Business lunch on the university's Minneapolis campus.
