South Dakota Employers Could Pay Less Unemployment Tax

Contribution rates that South Dakota businesses pay for unemployment insurance would drop about $2.5 million in calendar 2020 under a plan state lawmakers endorsed Wednesday..."If these rates were going up, we'd all be here howling like mashed cats," David Owen said. He is president for the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry and serves on the advisory panel.
Bill gutting South Dakota transgender sports policy dies in Senate committee

A bill to require transgender students to participate in South Dakota high school athletics based on their sex at birth rather than their gender identity was killed by a Senate committee on Thursday...Numerous school and business groups, including the Sioux Falls School District and Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce, testified against the legislation, saying it's discriminatory and could cause businesses to move out of state, as well as open school districts up to lawsuits.

Institute

Institute for Organization Management (Institute) is the premier continuing education experience for chamber professionals. Since 1921, the Institute program has educated and empowered chamber executives with the knowledge and skills they need to be leaders in their organizations and industry.

The Institute curriculum is comprised of four week-long sessions. Each session is five days and is offered at five locations across the country annually. With courses on topics such as advocacy, media training, membership, finance, legal issues, human resources, and much more, Institute ultimately educates participants on all facets of running an association. Northwestern Community-Based Lobbyists To Ask State For More Support

Lobbying groups from two northwestern Wisconsin regions share similar interests in getting more help from state government. The Chippewa Valley Chamber Alliance — with more than 100 members tied to the chambers of commerce in Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire and Menomonie — had to postpone its 25th annual  Chippewa Valley Rally  due to frigid weather expected in  Wisconsin this week
Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County to expand services throughout the state

The Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County has been growing quickly for the last couple of years, and in 2019, they’ll make an even bigger leap: expanding services statewide. As it grows, the chamber will focus on serving south central Wisconsin and will change its name and website, nixing the “Dane County” to reflect its wider presence.
Ames Main Street votes yes to agreement with Ames Chamber

Members of the Ames Main Street board unanimously voted to merge with the Ames Chamber of Commerce for leadership following a meeting earlier this week in which Chamber President and CEO Dan Culhane outlined the benefits of the agreement which he said would be to ensure a team of employees at the Chamber would handle some of duties of Ames Main Street’s executive director.

The St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2019 with community events, a series of historical videos and a look back at business beginnings in the area. "I said recently at an industry conference we were celebrating our 150th and everybody just gasped," said Chamber President Teresa Bohnen. "And it's kind of awe-inspiring to be the person sitting in this chair when it happens."
Broad range of senators support new Nebraska business incentives program

A new business development tax-incentive program designed to help attract and create more higher-paying jobs in the state will begin its journey through the 2019 Legislature propelled by a broad range of initial support...Bryan Slone, president of the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry, suggested that "in many respects, we are at an economic crossroads."
Hughes: Everything is on the table

A whopping 739 bills were introduced by Nebraska state senators this legislature session, the most since 2005, but whether most of them see the light of day outside of hearings remains to be seen...With the session barely starting, “Basically everything is on the table” concerning property tax relief and the need to raise revenue, Hughes said Thursday morning at the McCook Chamber of Commerce conference call.
