State of Technology speakers believe tech sector will be key to boosting North Dakota sectors

The state has become much more than a major player in agriculture and the oil and gas industries, emcee and Mind Shift President Josh Teigen said, as political and industry leaders concentrate on “building North Dakota as a technology hub.”Hoeven, who co-sponsored this ninth tech expo with the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce, said technology “is the third wave of economic opportunity” for North Dakota, and it creates a solid, three-legged foundation for the state’s economy looking toward the future.

Institute for Organization Management (Institute) is the premier continuing education experience for chamber professionals. Since 1921, the Institute program has educated and empowered chamber executives with the knowledge and skills they need to be leaders in their organizations and industry.

The Institute curriculum is comprised of four week-long sessions. Each session is five days and is offered at five locations across the country annually. With courses on topics such as advocacy, media training, membership, finance, legal issues, human resources, and much more, Institute ultimately educates participants on all facets of running an association. U.S., South Dakota businesses dealing with tariffs on Chinese goods

U.S. and South Dakota manufacturers are dealing with the impacts of the trade war and rising tariffs on Chinese products. Dave Owen, president of the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry, says some businesses are in a real bind. Owen says their members are using different approaches to deal with the rising costs.
Ag producers, politicians gather for a day at the Sioux Empire Fair amid tough year

Thousands of agriculture producers made their way to the Sioux Empire Fair for a day recognizing their work in a year that has been particularly difficult...More than 300 volunteers served a free lunch to about 7,000 ag producers, who were able to attend the fair for free on Wednesday, organized by the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce.
River Falls Chamber Announces Russ Korpela as Executive Director

The River Falls Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau is excited to announce their new Executive Director, Russ Korpela. After growing up in Ashland, WI Russ Korpela received his Bachelor of Science degree in business from Michigan Tech University. He was pursuing a career in banking when he was elected mayor of Ashland, WI in 1992 and later served Gov. Tommy Thompson as his northern Wisconsin policy advisor.

It’s time to celebrate the arts in Orange City...“A few years ago the Orange City Chamber of Commerce began pairing their annual hot dog topping contest, ‘Thanks with Franks,’ with Arts on Central. So the crowd can come out and sample ‘designer’ hot dogs prepared by our local chamber businesses and vote for their favorites,” Bauer said.

The Winona Area Chamber of Commerce (WACC) Board of Directors announces that Christie Ransom has been hired as the new President and CEO of the WACC. She will replace Della Schmidt, who spent 16 years in this role, before leaving in May to assume the position of President and CEO of the Greater Burlington Partnership in Burlington, IA. 
From the classroom to the workforce: Teachers explore industry needs to better prepare students for the future

Before heading back to the classroom, a group of teachers from area schools set out to explore the latest needs in workforce skills from some of Minnesota’s top employers through the TwinWest Chamber of Commerce “externship” program. The program is part of an initiative to better prepare students for jobs of the future.
O'Reilly eyes September opening in Schuyler

O'Reilly Auto Parts is tentatively scheduled to open its doors in Schuyler for the first time in late September...Schuyler already boasts a NAPA Auto Parts location. Still, Schuyler Community Development Economic Development Coordinator/ Schuyler Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jackie Farrell said it’s encouraging that another major retailer has decided to open up in town.
Chamber to millennials: How do you want to get around Omaha in the future?

Setting ambitious goals of being “bold” and “innovative,” the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce is launching a civic effort to create a new unified transportation strategy for the Omaha metro area. Called ConnectGO, the new initiative will have a presence at  Maha Festival events  this weekend as the  chamber surveys people about the transportation changes they want to see.
