Purchase tickets today by clicking on the red "TICKETS" button and completing the form.

Our Casino Night fundraiser will be held in the Oxford College of Emory University Student Center, Oxford, Georgia on June 22, 2024.

Join us for a great evening, for a great cause. Along with music, drinks, heavy hors d’oeuvres, you can try your luck at our roulette, poker, black jack and craps tables. Use your winnings to obtain raffle tickets for great raffles items.

Check-in and social hour between 5:30-6:30 p.m. Gaming tables will be open 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Throughout the evening, participants may exchange gaming chips for raffle tickets. If you would like to donate a raffle item, please contact info@newtontrails.org.

All event proceeds will help Newton Trails continue its efforts to expand and improve trails in Newton County. This year we seek support to help us extend the Cricket Frog Trail to Newborn and to Lakeview Drive; to connect it to the Eastside Trail; to improve trailheads, amenities, signage, and safety; and to help maintain and promote local trails.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT - VICKI BAILEY

In 2018, Vicki Bailey joined Newton Trails' Wednesday morning group hikes. During one hike former board chair Greg Richardson asked her if she would be interested in managing Newton Trails' website. Having recently retired from a 30-year career as an IT systems support specialist in a local school district, she had the skills, time, and interest. She has been doing a great job managing our website ever since.

Vicki was born in Atlanta and has lived in the area all her life. She says that the best parts of her work on the website have been "the website redesign and being able to post all the wonderful things Newton Trails does for the County." Besides her volunteer work, she enjoys traveling, hiking, local 5K races, kayaking, and spending time with family and friends. Vicki has this to say to Newton Trails supporters, "Come join us on a weekly hike, you'll enjoy being outside and making new friends, all are welcome!" To receive notification of our group hikes, drop a request to info@newtontrails.org.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT - CHARLES ODUM

Charles Odum is a busy young man. He works at BJ's Wholesale Club primarily in their online shopping unit, is taking four classes at Georgia State University's Newton Campus, and sends nearly all of Newton Trails' thank you letters. When you make a donation or contribute a sponsorship, Charles prints a recognition letter and drops it in the mail. He plans to continue that volunteer work even after he transfers to Georgia Southern University in Statesboro this fall. There he will pursue a baccalaureate degree in business management.

Charles started volunteering with Newton Trails two years ago when one of his professors offered extra credit to students engaged in community service. Charles says, "the best part of my volunteer service is seeing the same names come across my desk, it's nice to see how many people contribute and how many give repeatedly." When he is not writing and sending out thank you letters, Charles enjoys hanging with friends, working on cars, and working out at the gym.

TRAIL BENCH UPDATE

Thanks to the generosity of many donors, Newton Trails has been able to install all the benches we envision needing along the Cricket Frog Trail within the Covington city limits, save one. There is one empty site just north of Turner Lake Road behind Hesters Package Store.

There are several lovely sites available along the Oxford Trail and along the Cricket Frog Trail between the Covington Bypass and the Trail's eastern terminus at Zeigler Road. When we are able to extend the trail to Newborn there will be wonderful sites between Zeigler Road and Timberlake Drive.

NEWTON TRAILS' 2023 DONORS AND SPONSORS

Newton Trails appreciates all its sponsors, donors, supporters, and volunteers. Per our Donor, Sponsor, and Supporter Recognition Program (newtontrails.org/donor-recognition) we recognize donors who have contributed at least $500 in four consecutive Newsletters. Our January newsletter and annual report lists everyone who made a cash contribution in the previous calendar year.

Here are the sponsors and donors who have contributed since the Spring 2023 Newsletter was published on March 22, 2023. We try to get this list right, but if you see an error, please let us know at info@newtontrails.org.
