Pickering Manor is a 5-star non-profit Continuing Care/Life Plan Community nestled in a residential area of historic Newtown.
Pickering Manor was formed from the generosity of Newtown resident, Henry Russell Pickering. Upon his passing, he bequeathed his home and a trust with the purpose of caring for the aging in his beloved community. With the support of the Community Welfare Council of Newtown, the first long-term-care resident was admitted on January 3, 1963.
Pickering Manor has grown significantly in the past 59 years from a small nursing home of 47 residents to a newly expanded and renovated center offering the full continuum of care.
In 2020, Pickering Manor launched its largest expansion to date; the 26,000 square foot Sidney T. Yates Pavilion complete with a state-of-the-art Rehab gym; a 15-bed Short Term Rehab Neighborhood with all private rooms; and a 15-bed Personal Care Neighborhood for those seniors requiring only a moderate level of care. In 2021, renovations were completed throughout the original Pickering Pavilion and include a 32-bed Skilled Nursing Neighborhood for those residents requiring full care or Hospice/Palliative interventions. The final addition will be the 21-bed Memory Care Neighborhood slated to open in the coming months. In addition, Pickering Manor also offers Independent Living with 10 Cottages and 24 Rental Apartments for those interested in a 55+ experience.
