Hello Karin,

Our next CCA Advocacy Committee Meeting is on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 9:30AM - 11:00AM. Note that the meeting may go to 11:30AM.

At this meeting we will be reviewing the bills in our CCA Bill Tracker and voting on positions and/or deleting them in our Bill Tracker. As of Jan 30th, we have forty-nine bills in our CCA Bill Tracker and that is too many to follow. We will have to make some difficult decisions at this meeting and delete some of the bills. To make the task of reviewing the bills more efficient, we need all members to review the bills before the meeting.

  • Please review the list of bills and come prepared to share your top bills that you think we should follow and become involved with.
  • Remember that we will need volunteers to step forward to follow each of the bills we are tracking.
  • Be prepared to get involved in the bill tracking.

Here is a link to our bill tracker web page where you will find the link to the actual bill tracker:

The Invisible Caregiving Workforce

"The past year-and-a-half has put an unprecedented spotlight on the care received by America's aging population. There's been a renewed focus on the essential workers who do the hard, uncelebrated labor of tending to their daily, even hourly, personal, physical, emotional and social needs ..." READ MORE

Southeastern Colorado struggles to attract home builders

Now federal stimulus will help add 127 homes

"Between the state and private prisons, the sheriff’s office, schools and a growing cannabis cultivation industry, there are plenty of workers who could make Crowley County their home. Except there aren’t enough places for them to live. And, as the supply of houses and apartments has declined in the rural county east of Pueblo, few developers are interested in building ..." - READ MORE

Few Aging in Place Programs Focus on Rural Areas

Aging in place can be challenging for many older adults, no matter where they live, but is especially daunting for those living in rural areas. "Housing stock tends to be older and of poorer quality, there is less access to health care and those in rural areas are generally lower-income," says Carrie Henning-Smith, an associate professor at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health and deputy director for the school's Rural Health Research Center ... - READ MORE

The missing puzzle piece for getting to 100% clean power

It’s about using renewable energy to make gas.

"Across the country, dozens of cities and states have passed laws or resolutions targeting 100 percent carbon-free electricity - most recently 20 communities in Utah and the state of Virginia. But is it even possible to power a modern economy with a carbon-free grid? And if so, what are the best energy sources and technologies for getting there? ..." - READ MORE

Could liquor stores be a solution to Colorado’s food deserts?

"Liquor stores are currently limited in how much revenue they can make from selling food products. Senate Bill 33 would change that. If there’s one thing Colorado has a lot of, it’s liquor stores. There are more than 1,500 of them in the state. And state Sen. Kevin Priola sees them as a way to help eliminate a stubborn problem plaguing both Colorado’s inner-city neighborhoods and rural parts of the state: food deserts, areas where people have limited or no access to nutritious foo ..." - READ MORE

5 Reasons Older Adults Aren't Getting Hired

"If you're over 40, hunting for a job and not getting hired, you're far from alone. Adults in their 40s, 50s and 60s now make up half of the long-term unemployed (those out of work for more than six months) in the United States. Roughly 1.2 million older adults fall into this category. Given that there are more than 10.4 million open jobs, you'd think it would be easier for them to find work, especially with years of experience. It is anything but, and much more complicated than you might think ..." - READ MORE
