Hello
At this meeting we will discuss our CCA Advocacy Subgroups, the recent surveys, organizing a focus group about CCA activities, topics and speakers. As an organization we are very interested in hearing from our members and followers on their ideas for the direction of the Colorado Center for Aging in regard to older adult advocacy at the capitol and our Monday Morning CCA Advocacy Committee Meetings. Plan to attend the Monday, June 27th CCA Advocacy Committee meeting – bring your ideas and wish list!
We will have a short presentation by Andrea Kuwik of The Bell Policy Center. They are wanting to organize two candidate forums in September and they have asked CCA if we are interested in being involved at some level.
Also please review our CCA Advocacy Committee Subgroup list. Summer is when we ramp up our research so please review what groups you are part of and let Andrew know if you need assistance in starting up the summer research.

Have you taken the CCA Survey? Please do so today!
Colorado Center for Aging has introduced a survey we are strongly encouraging our members and supporters to take. As many grantors require information about an organizations' diversity, equity, and inclusion this survey will help us establish a baseline of demographics that we might become as representative as possible of our state. As a 501c3, CCA is eligible to apply for such grant funding and this survey will contribute to our success. The survey is completely confidential. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact our Executive Director, Andrew Davies, at adavies@coloradocenterforaging.org. Note: It is NOT required to sign in to a Google account to complete the survey.

Colorado Center of Aging has lost a Citizen Advocate and a Treasured Member of
the CCA Capitol Gang
Diane Lee Robinson
1946 – 2022
Back in the day before COVID, when we were at The Capitol in person, Diane Robinson was a strong citizen advocate who worked with Jeanette Hensley and Rich Mauro in The Capitol Gang.
She moved to Colorado from Georgia and immediately found a place at Colorado Senior Lobby. We have fond memories of Diane working with Jeanette on the “Cookie Campaign.” Jeanette baked dozens and dozens of chocolate chip cookies and then Diane and her packaged them and delivered them to the legislator’s offices all to draw attention to the advocacy work that Colorado Senior Lobby did on behalf of older adults. Legislators came to know Diane and respect her testimony.
Read more about Diane’s full life filled with advocacy for older adults and many contributions to her community in Georgia and Colorado – READ MORE

"As one grows older, art and life become one and the same."
- Pablo Picasso (Artist until age 91)
"Whether being born with a disability or through illness, injury, or aging, we will all experience disabling conditions in our lifetime. Growing older will inevitably change our bodies and minds. The United States is becoming older and more diverse. In fact, by 2030 over 70 million people in the US will be over age 64 and the number of people over age 85 will double. Older adults are living longer and healthier lives than they did a generation ago ..." READ MORE

For French v Centura Health, a resolution at long last
"The cost of health care in the United States is astronomical — so much so, that unpaid medical bills are the leading cause of bankruptcies. One glaring contributing factor is the fact that hospitals have free rein to set internal prices for medical services and hospital stays, which unsurprisingly leads to exorbitant bills for patients. These internally set, highly inflated, and unregulated medical care prices are called “chargemaster rates.” Chargemaster rates are intentionally set to be well beyond the reasonable cost of care because it is understood that insurance companies will negotiate with hospitals for a better price ..." Why Aging and Disability Often Intersect, But Safety Support Systems May Not
"People with disabilities are often vulnerable to abuse, fraud and other safety threats. So are older people. Since aging often brings on or worsens physical and/or cognitive disabilities, it stands to reason that safety risks increase. And as the overall population ages, there will be more people who fall into both these categories ..." READ MORE

The CPR News voter guide to Colorado’s 2022 primary elections: How to vote, who’s running and more to know
"Who gets to vote? Colorado’s primary elections are semi-open. Registered Democrats will only get a Democratic ballot, and the same for registered Republicans. Unaffiliated voters get both party’s ballots, but can only return one for it to count. Minor parties don’t hold primaries, but instead pick their candidates through assemblies..." READ MORE

CCLP POLICY FORUM: The Future of Affordable Housing Virtual Event
We cordially invite you to join Colorado Center on Law and Policy (CCLP) for the first event in our new Policy Forum series. In each of these events, we'll take a look at the history and current state of a critical area of anti-poverty legislation, examining lessons learned as we move toward new opportunities and changing challenges. From there, we'll engage participants to find out more about the concerns YOU have, YOUR ideas for bold change, so that together we might identify new solutions to the challenges we face. Our first event in the series will focus on the future of affordable housing legislation in Colorado. Looking back to the history of affordable housing legislation, and applying lessons learned from the 2022 legislative session, this forum is a space for dialogue and brainstorming around solutions that meet the needs of Coloradans in 2023 and beyond LEARN MORE
