Plan to attend the Monday, September 12 2022 CCA Advocacy Committee meeting

At this meeting we will discuss:

  • Reviewing ideas for reorganizing our CCA Advocacy Planning Subgroups
  • We also want your input on how you think we should change and reorganize the subgroups
  • We will also be reviewing speakers and presentations that we will book for the rest of the year’s Monday morning meetings
  • We are interested in learning about people and organizations you would like to hear from at upcoming meetings

As an organization we are very interested in hearing from our members and followers on their ideas for the direction of the Colorado Center for Aging in regard to older adult advocacy at the capitol and our Monday Morning CCA Advocacy Committee Meetings.

SPECIAL INTEREST

The Older Worker Policy Collaborative (comprised of AARP Colorado, Bell Policy Center, Changing the Narrative, Colorado Center on Aging, Colorado Gerontological Society, CU Multidisciplinary Center on Aging, iAging, and others) is trying to gain a better understanding of the employment and application experiences of workers 50 and older. While these Coloradans comprise the fastest growing segment of our workforce, we have minimal information about their experiences, particularly as it relates to issues of age discrimination. To fill this gap, the Collaborative developed a short 3-minute survey. The survey is anonymous and open until the end of September. We’ll use the results to advocate for more robust policies supportive of Colorado’s experienced labor force. Here are links to the survey in

Graduation Dates

Changing the Narrative is working with a coalition of partners to emulate what Connecticut did last year: Pass a law banning school graduation dates from job applications. Why? The link between workplace age discrimination and graduation dates on job applications is strong. You can learn more on this fact sheet.

What does TABOR stand for?

The Taxpayer Bill of Rights (abbreviated TABOR) is a concept advocated by conservative and free market libertarian groups, primarily in the United States, as a way of limiting the growth of government. TABOR requires state and local governments to establish and maintain a 3% emergency reserve. This means governments in Colorado must set aside an amount of money in reserves equivalent to 3% of their fiscal year spending.

Her Brother Landed in a Nursing Home. She Was Sued Over His Bill.

"Consumer advocates say nursing homes slip the agreements into papers that family members sign when an older parent or sick friend is admitted. Sometimes people are told they must sign, a violation of federal law. 'They are given a stack of forms and told, ‘Sign here, sign there. Click here, click there,' said Miriam Sheline, managing attorney at Pro Seniors, a nonprofit law firm in Cincinnati..."
