The TB Drug Availability Challenges Notification has been updated to streamline use for programs and other submitters. Requested information has been simplified and updated to reflect the current landscape of TB medications, and questions about diagnostics have been removed.

Changes to the Reporting Form

The goal of the updated instrument is to allow for quick and simple notification to NTCA by programs and partners experiencing a new or worsening issue in accessing one or more TB drugs including:

  • dispensing TB drugs before expiration dates
  • pharmacy procurement challenges (i.e., back order, on allocation)
  • extensive paperwork or staff time
  • prohibitive costs
  • changes to treatment regimens
  • other issues

The form may be used to submit information about multiple drugs at the same time and there is no request at this time to submit a new notification if an issue resolves.

NTCA may follow-up with the submitter directly for additional details as needed, and NTCA will use this information to alert programs and partners of emerging situations, and to communicate about emerging situations with the FDA.

Presenters include:

  • Marco Salerno, Chair -- NTCA Survey Committee
  • Laura Young
  • Joey Lindsey

Please note: Given the ongoing challenges accessing rifampin, we also invited DTBE's Martha Boisseau to provide an update on the TB drug stockpile and the current availability of rifampin.

SAVE THE DATE!

The tentative date of the next CoP call related to our ongoing drug availability challenges is Thursday, November 16th at 11:30 am ET. We are planning an update on possible partnerships to address the TB drug availability challenges, thinking outside of the box and our usual external partnerships!

If you have any questions about NTCA's Community of Practice (CoP), please email Diana Fortune, NTCA TB Nurse Consultant and CoP facilitator.
