Hello!

This is our second to last newsletter of 2020 and what a year it has been! The end of the year is also a time to close out tasks and set goals for the new year. Here are a few things you can do to make sure you are on track with Dollars for Scholars:

  1. If you haven't already, please complete the evaluation for the virtual visit to Oakland University ASAP. (It can be found in your email - please reach out if you do not see it.)
  2. Log in to Tutor.com to explore resources and complete at least 1 session OR attend office hours this week to fulfill the requirement together! (Need your log-in info? Send me a text! (734) 354-7274)

Our number one priority is you - making sure you have everything you need to be successful in life after high school. We'll be reaching out in various ways to check in with you and help you reach your goals.

Happy Holidays!

NEW: MEET MARKETEA! DFS POST-SECONDARY TRANSITION COACH
DFS has a new part-time staff member! While Marketea will be focused on the seniors this year, she is a great resource! Let us know if you'd like to connect.

Hello, my name is Marketea Abbott! I am a graduate of Melvindale High School class of 2018. I am also an alumni of the Detroit Regional Dollars For Scholars Program.

I am currently enrolled as a junior at Hope College in Holland, MI. I am pursuing a social work degree to work with teenagers in the foster care system.

I am so eager to begin walking alongside the Next Level Scholars and helping to navigate the post-secondary transition!
RESOURCE SPOTLIGHT: DECEMBER COLLEGE CHECKLIST FOR HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS
We know December is perhaps the busiest month of the year, but don’t forget about your college search!

Don’t leave everything until the summer or fall. There’s plenty of time to start working on those college applications now! For instance, you can start outlining ideas for an admissions essay. You can also create a short list of teachers and mentors that you can ask for letters of recommendation.

Here are some additional suggestions of what you can work on this month to get ahead.
