Hello!
Winter break is a good time to get your FAFSA submitted and continue to apply to post-secondary institutions. We created this checklist to help you keep track of DRDFS program priorities while you take some time to rest and recharge for the coming year!

While we are taking a break from Next Level News until 2021, DRDFS staff will still be working and available to assist you during the break. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns you have!

We hope you and your families are continuing to stay safe and healthy!

Happy Holidays and we look forward to connecting again in the New Year!

NEW: MOTIVATION WITH MARKETEA
“Hello All, this is a new addition to our Next Level News and we are calling it Motivation with Marketea! I, Marketea, would love to share a weekly dose of motivation and inspiration to help keep us going throughout the week. This will include a quote that I find helpful and empowering during the week. Below is the very first one I’d like to share.

When I think about this past year, 2020, I am reminded of how many changes have been made to our lives. I recognize that not all of them created a positive impact but we handled them with much perseverance. When days seem long and quite draining, we must remember to take what we have and embrace it. Find time to see the light within trials. Find the energy to dance in the rain!”
ICYMI: MEET MARKETEA! DFS POST-SECONDARY TRANSITION COACH
Marketea will be calling all seniors over the next few weeks to check in on you and your post-secondary plans. Get your questions ready- she is a great resource!

Hello, my name is Marketea Abbott! I am a graduate of Melvindale High School class of 2018. I am also an alumni of the Detroit Regional Dollars For Scholars Program.

I am currently enrolled as a junior at Hope College in Holland, MI. I am pursuing a social work degree to work with teenagers in the foster care system.

I am so eager to begin walking alongside the Next Level Scholars and helping to navigate the post-secondary transition!
