Happy Black History Month! Along with Detroit College Access Network and MCAN, Detroit Regional Dollars for Scholars is proud to celebrate Black voices and accomplishments this month but also recognizes that Black history is important year-round. This month we will be sharing more information about HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), influential Black leaders, and events!

COMING SOON: SAT PREP WITH THE PRINCETON REVIEW
Next week you will participate in two 2.5 hour SAT prep sessions virtually with an instructor from The Princeton Review.

Sessions will take place on 2/16 & 2/17 during school hours (check with your Next Level Scholars Adviser for session timing!)

  • Participation raffles for $10 gift cards happening both days during the sessions!
  • $100 gift cards given to 3 students who take the SAT, submit their score to DRDFS and get the top scores for the Class of 2023 Next Level Scholars!
  • $100 gift cards to the 3 most improved students who submit their scores to DRDFS!
  • First 50 students to submit their official SAT score in May to DRDFS will get a $10 gift card! Stay tuned!
NEW: COLLEGEBOARD'S REAL TALK
Real Talk is a virtual college exploration initiative designed to connect Black students with Black representatives from colleges and access organizations across the country. Watch past talks for info on planning, paying for, and attending college. Check out upcoming virtual events and register to learn more!
BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPOTLIGHT: CHARLES H. WRIGHT MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY - YOUTH SPEAKS
Calling all children 18 or younger! Join the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History during Black History Month for Youth Speaks, a free virtual program that highlights the voices of young people through performing and visual arts. Each Friday in February, check back here for videos of participants bringing focus to the themes like history, justice, equality, and Afrofuturism. 

At the end of the month, viewers will vote for their top three favorite performances! Those finalists will go on to compete in person at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in front of a live audience.
ICYMI: VIRTUAL CAMPUS VISIT WITH GVSU
DRDFS and GVSU admissions are offering a virtual campus visit on 2/22/22! The session is geared toward sophomores in the program, but we are inviting all interested Next Level Scholars to attend if they wish! The session is scheduled to take place from 3:30 PM - 4:15 PM on Zoom. Register here.
