Greetings!

We hope this message finds you well and you are staying warm!

We are writing to you today because you indicated a preference for on-campus housing for the upcoming academic year. Now that the February 1 deadline for rising seniors to indicate their housing intent (on- or off-campus) has passed, we can confirm that demand for on-campus housing from rising seniors will exceed available inventory.

Below, we outline the next steps and address anticipated questions.

On-Campus Lottery

Our office will proceed with an On-Campus Housing Lottery for rising seniors who previously indicated their intent to live on campus.

You may log back into the Housing Portal to form a roommate group if you’d like, no later than Tuesday, February 10. Forming a roommate group allows us to make decisions with your intended living group in mind, should you identify one.

Please review this step-by-step guide on how to form your Roommate Group for the On-Campus Lottery.

We aim to communicate outcomes from the On-Campus Lottery no later than February 13. For those not selected in the On-Campus Lottery, we will maintain a waitlist should additional spaces become available.

If you have changed your mind and no longer wish to be considered in the On-Campus Lottery and instead wish to live off-campus, you can update your intent in the Housing Portal or email us at housing@wfu.edu, and we will update it for you.

On-Campus Options

We anticipate that most rising seniors will select housing at Deacon Place. Additional inventory may remain after rising sophomores and juniors select; however, this is difficult to predict.

The room availability list for housing selection will be shared on Friday, April 10. Rising seniors are encouraged to review this on Wednesday, April 15 in preparation for their selection day on Thursday, April 16.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below, we address some anticipated questions; please do not hesitate to contact our team at housing@wfu.edu with other questions.

Am I automatically enrolled in the on-campus housing lottery, or do I need to take any specific action?

If you have completed your Senior Intent and stated that you would like to remain on-campus for the 2026-27 academic year, you have entered the On-Campus Lottery.

How many people should be in my roommate group?

As Deacon Place is prioritized for rising seniors, we encourage you to consider forming a roommate group of four (4) students. Groups may not exceed four (4) students.

Please review this step-by-step guide on how to form your Roommate Group for the On-Campus Lottery.

What if I do not have a roommate group?

You will still be considered in the on-campus lottery just as an individual. Forming a roommate group does not increase your chances of being selected.

What if I want to form a roommate group with non–rising seniors?

For the on-campus lottery, groups may only include other rising seniors. If you are hoping to live with non-seniors, you would enter the on-campus lottery as an individual.

If notified that you will be able to live on-campus, you may then form a roommate group for Housing Selection. That group may include non-seniors, but including them will affect your selection time; therefore, you should not expect to have access to Deacon Place.

If I am selected to live on campus, can I change my roommate group?

Yes. You may change your roommate group after you have been granted on-campus housing status. Please note that your housing selection date and time will be based on the average number of housing credits in your group.

What if I can’t afford Deacon Place?

If you have concerns about your ability to (a) afford the Deacon Place rate or (b) secure off-campus housing (e.g., not having a co-signer), please contact me directly at blackmzr@wfu.edu so I can better assist you.

If I am not selected to live on campus but cannot secure off-campus housing?

We ask that you wait until you receive an update from our office on your status on February 13. If you are not selected to live on campus and have concerns about securing off-campus housing, contact our team at housing@wfu.edu for resources and next steps.

We know this may not be the outcome you were hoping for, and we appreciate your understanding. Residence Life and Housing remains available to support you, answer questions, and help you navigate the options ahead.
