We are so grateful for the generosity of our community. After an amazing initial fundraising response we've raised almost $85,000 to date for the Nourishing Neighbors program which connects struggling restaurants to struggling families in East Harlem. All of those funds have gone directly to our partner restaurants who have prepared over 7,500 nourishing meals for those facing food insecurity in New York.
This program was intended to address an acute need that became exacerbated by the pandemic--small businesses in crisis and increasing rates of hunger across the city. As the health pandemic subsides, we know that the road to economic and social healing in our city is long.
Our commitment to supporting business and fighting food insecurity in New York hasn't changed. As the landscape in the city continues to shift, we want to be part of imagining how restaurants might play a permanent role in feeding families and others in need.
We'd love to continue this work together. We're inviting everyone to take one more step to support this initiative in the next phase of healing our city. You can make a small recurring donation ($12 or $24 a month) to sustain the program.
Thanks to Cheryl Beall and Holly Rawlinson for their leadership and to Lydia Saylor, Lucy Breidenthal, and Taylor Johnson for making it possible.
