Ride Plus: A New Way to Get Around

On June 18, SamTrans will debut Ride Plus, an on-demand microtransit service offering rides only within the communities of Half Moon Bay, East Palo Alto and the Belle Haven neighborhood of Menlo Park. Whether you're dining, running errands, or hitting a local beach or park, Ride Plus will get you there. Do you have a trip outside of either Half Moon Bay or East Palo Alto and the Belle Haven neighborhood of Menlo Park? Use Ride Plus to connect with regular SamTrans bus service. And get this: Ride Plus is absolutely free from June 18th through the end of July — then it’s as affordable as a standard bus ride. Get started now by visiting the Ride Plus website or calling 650-238-5880.

SamTrans Service Improvements

Along with the addition of Ride Plus, SamTrans will also adjust several local routes to improve service. It’s the latest step in our Reimagine SamTrans project that began in 2019 reflecting your input as well as extensive research we've conducted in the field. Starting June 18, SamTrans will expand operating hours and adjust frequency and route alignments to improve on-time performance and better serve your needs. Some key changes to note include adding later trips, seven days a week, in Redwood City for route 278, and extending route 281 all the way to the Stanford University campus and Medical Center with increased frequency. SamTrans will also increase the frequency and operating hours of routes 121, 276, 280 and 295.

SamTrans Supercharged Your Bike Month

SamTrans was happy to participate in Bike Month

This May, bicyclists were out in full force and used SamTrans buses to help extend their pedal power. This was especially true during Bike to Wherever Days on May 18, 19 and 20. Cyclists can feel confident when traveling long distances in San Mateo County because all of our buses come equipped with a front rack that can carry up to three bikes and an additional two can fit inside the bus when passenger loads allow. Bike-friendly SamTrans hopes you’ll take the inspiration we felt in May to fuel your bike-and-bus trips for months to come.

World Diversity Day

The San Mateo County Transit District (District) was proud to celebrate World Diversity Day. Communities across the globe celebrated World Diversity Day and the District took part to commemorate the event on May 23. This was a chance for cultural dialogue, development and appreciation. The District was excited to celebrate the diversity within its own community and display the cultural backgrounds that contribute to an inclusive environment. In addition, the District hosted three site events for all its employees to enjoy food and entertainment from around the globe.

Celebrate Pride Month

SamTrans is excited to help you and our local LGBTQ+ community enjoy Pride Month in June by getting you safety to and from several local celebrations. This year, there will be two coastside Pride events in San Mateo county and SamTrans is only a ride away. On June 3, Pacifica Pride will host a festival with a family zone for all to enjoy. A week later, on June 11, Half Moon Bay will host its inaugural celebration featuring entertainment and a parade with a family fun zone as well. SamTrans will participate in the celebration with its very own Pride wrapped bus. Also, San Mateo County Pride will host its 11th annual celebration on June 10 at San Mateo Central Park featuring live entertainment and family-friendly activities. Finally, consider SamTrans to help connect you with Caltrain or BART to experience San Francisco’s massive Pride Parade on June 25.
