The Trickster: Unexpected Guide to the Self

Thursday, February 29, 2024

7 - 9 PM EST (Zoom Only)

We are very excited to have Dr. Judith Cooper making a Zoom only presentation on The Trickster—Unexpected Guide to the Self. Dr. Cooper is a clinical psychologist and diplomate Jungian Analyst and a graduate and member of the C.G. Jung Institute of Chicago where she teaches and supervises in the Institute’s Analyst Training Program. She has lectured widely on the anima/animus and the use of film in clinical treatment.

Dr. Cooper's program will explore the Trickster archetype. She will attempt to capture this elusive, mercurial energy that brings chaotic instability in its drive to subvert the social order as a shape shifter, thus carrying gender fluidity, crossing and violating boundaries, and confusing and blurring distinctions between right and wrong, sacred and profane, male and female, living and dead.

She will explore how the Trickster forces us to question our understanding of order and morality and, therefore, acts as a potent force for healing and revitalizing culture.

CEUs will be available. The cost is $30 for members / $35 for non-members.

Claire Hagan Bauza Lecture

The Use of Psychedelics in Psychotherapy

Saturday, April 6, 2024

9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. EST

(In-person at First Community Church & on Zoom)

On April 8, 2024, there will be a total eclipse of the sun and Columbus, Ohio, is right in its path. The last time the world saw more than 7 minutes of totality was in 1973 over Africa. This won’t happen again until 2150 over the Pacific.

So, what better way to celebrate than to present an amazing Bauza program in person at First Community and on Zoom exploring the utility of psychedelics when used competently and responsibly within the context of analytic work. The program will look at the how certain psychedelics can be used as a way of allowing the ego to recede and for a soul-connection to exist that has a reality beyond logical comprehension—an experience that Jung called an experience of the "numinous." For Jung, it was the approach to the numinous that was at the heart of his work. Although, during his time, Jung did not endorse the use of psychedelics, that does not mean that it may not have validity in today’s psychological world.

The program will feature 2 presenters. Dr. Jim Fidelibus is a licensed psychologist in Ohio who holds a diploma as a Jungian Analyst from the C.G. Jung Institute of Chicago. He also has advanced training in couples therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Fidelibus will examine a case from a Jungian perspective where analysis was conducted over a 2-year period following a patient’s experience with psilocybin.

Dylan Rivard, is a licensed professional counselor in Colorado with a master’s degree in transpersonal psychotherapy. He has trained with the Psychedelic Research & Training Institute and serves as faculty for trainings with both Elemental Psychedelics and The Congregation of Sacred Practices. His practice includes experiential therapy, ketamine assisted therapy, and working with the LGBTQIA community. Mr. Rivard will speak to the experiences of his practice as it relates to the use of psychedelics in his clients’ path to individuation and wholeness.

CEUs will be available. The cost is $45 for members / $55 for non-members.

Why I Serve - Clyde Linville, Board Treasurer

I discovered JACO in 1992 when I joined a men's group there. I was beginning to ask questions about many of my values, beliefs, and perceptions. Through this experience, I began to tune into the rich language represented in my nightly dreams. I became aware of the symbols and archetypes that inhabit the collective human experience throughout history.

The experience allowed me to shine light into areas of myself that were veiled in shadow. I began to see parts of me that had been, up to that point, outside of my awareness. These discoveries brought purpose to my life and helped facilitate growth and individuation.

I hope you'll consider joining JACO. We're a group passionate about self-discovery, growth, and understanding the collective human experience. Jung's insights guide our discussions, bringing purpose and depth to our lives.
