The Institute for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies cordially
invites you to the University Seminar on "Europe Since COVID-19":
Germany and the Impact of the War in Ukraine
Tuesday, April 19, 2022
9:00 - 10:00 a.m. (EDT)

Virtual Event
Germany occupies a key role in the EU and has been involved in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine since 2014. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine two months ago, Germany has made an about-face from its previous policy of not supplying weapons to countries at war in order to help Ukraine, has pledged 1 billion euros for the German army, and has accepted Ukrainian refugees. Yet Germany is reliant on Russia for roughly 34% of its oil and 55% of its natural gas, and has thus far resisted an embargo on these. To discuss these and other issues, please join us for a moderated discussion with the second-ranked official at the German Foreign Office, Minister of State Dr. Tobias Lindner.
