Hybrid and distance learning will be a significant part of the future of education. Three experts in distance education, Jim Eagen, Head of School at Synapse School (moderator), John Watson, founder of Evergreen Education Group, and Rachel Skiffer, Head of School at Khan Lab School, join in conversation as we close out an academic year like no other.

They will review what worked in the field of distance education during the pandemic and will also look ahead to what we can improve so all students can receive a robust education.

John Watson is an educator and founder of Evergreen Education Group (Evergreen), where he has researched and advocated for digital learning matters to lawmakers, school boards and education leaders for two decades. Evergreen also manages the Digital Learning Collaborative, a membership group exploring strategies for success in online and blended learning settings. Watson began his digital education career, working for one of the first learning management companies, eCollege, and developing its K-12 educational division.

Jim Eagen (moderator) is in his 8th year as the Head of School at Synapse School, a one-of-kind K-8 lab school in Menlo Park with a signature project-based curriculum and brain-based framework. Prior to this current position, his independent school career included positions as teacher, coach and administrator. Eagen believes that when schools and their leaders focus less on what to change and, more importantly, embrace constant change to develop the critical skills of implementing change, transformation in education is possible. Under Eagen's leadership, Synapse has grown exponentially in size and impact, earning a reputation as a place where students, teachers and families thrive.

Rachel Skiffer was named Head of School at Khan Lab School in 2018. Before that she spent five years as the Dean of Policy and Strategic Planning at Phillips Academy (Andover). Skiffer, a lawyer and former management consultant, has also held administrative leadership positions at San Francisco University High School and The Latin School of Chicago, and worked in admissions and financial aid at Harvard College.

Spring 2021 Common Ground Speaker Series events will take place live online. Please register for each event to receive webinar access, reminders and updates. Unless indicated otherwise, registration closes two hours before the start of each event or when maximum capacity is reached.

Parents, faculty and staff at our 44 member schools attend the Common Ground online events free of charge. This is made possible through the generous financial support of their schools.
Faculty and educators from non-member schools are also invited to attend free of charge.
Guests from non-member schools and the general community are welcome to register and attend the virtual live stream events for a $10 non-refundable fee.
