Principal's Corner

Dear Garces Parents,

I am happy to report that we are off to good start for the school year.  I challenged the students on Orientation Day to raise their standards, and I am proud to say they have met my expectations.  On Wednesdays, to see them all dressed in our new Formal Dress, is inspiring.  It is my favorite day on our campus and I look forward to it each week.   We heard a lot of grumbling at first, and now they walk around with their heads held a little higher and looking like a student body that embraces the Catholic values we strive to teach them.  It is a joy to see them actively participating at Mass, behaving with respect for themselves and each other, singing and responding with one voice, and being solemn and mindful during communion.  It was Holy Bowl last Saturday, and I was lucky enough to see volleyball, water polo, girls tennis and football in action.  I was so proud of our students, coaches, players, and "The Herd" and how they conducted themselves on the campus of our sister school, San Joaquin Memorial.  As you may have heard, we have made the tough decision to fold the JV football team players into the Varsity football team.  Due to injuries and the lack of depth of players at the JV level, it was the best decision for the remainder of this year.  Garces will continue to have a freshman football team.  Once we have confirmed the dates and times for the varsity and freshman games for the remainder of the season, we will update the website.  Next year, we fully anticipate have all three levels of football.  I want to congratulate the JV team on their undefeated record.  They were 4-0 and we are all so proud of their accomplishment and we look for them to be a great addition at the varsity level.  I am also happy to report that we have already informally observed all of our teachers and we have been very impressed with the level of teaching that is happening in the classrooms with your children.  Our teachers are challenging your students and providing coursework that will truly prepare them for their future challenges at the college level.  Progress Reports will soon be posted.  Please go on-line and check on the status of your child's grades and contact their teacher, or teachers, if you have any questions.  Please encourage your child to take advantage of Collaboration and spend time with teachers who can assist them.  We want all of our students to be eligible to participate in the activities they enjoy.  To those of you who came to the Holy Bowl Night Rally - thank you.  It was a pleasure to have you and I know the students enjoyed having you here.  I loved it when they spontaneously walked over and sang this year's school theme song "Man in the Mirror" to all of you.   Lastly, I hope to see all of you at our Fall BBQ next week.  Garces parents Suzanne Rogers and Jenny Waguespack, have been working tirelessly to make this year's Fall BBQ one to remember.  I hope you will all come out and support the school and more importantly have a good time while doing so.

May there always be a Garces.
