This week we continue our showcase of 2022 Awards Finalists! The CDCR's Annual Reshaping Rochester Awards recognize exemplary regional initiatives and projects that positively impact people, neighborhoods, and the community.

As always, we request that you take a moment to familiarize yourself with each finalist and the impact they have had on their respective communities.
Award for Design
This award recognizes projects that demonstrate design excellence and contribute to enriching the public realm. There are three categories of this award based on project budget. Here are the finalists for the small and medium categories:
Small Project Category (budgets under $1 million)
Farash Place - Renovation
The Farash Place renovation is nominated for prioritizing contemporary sustainability environmental standards, improved quality of life for residents, and expanded ADA access in its façade and landscape.




Motion Junction Inclusive Playground
Motion Junction Inclusive Playground is nominated for being the first universally designed and certified playground in the country; a community-built, sensory-rich environment that enables all children to develop physically, socially, and emotionally.

The Laurelton - Second Floor Renovation
The renovation of The Laurelton's second floor is nominated for balancing modernization with original features to ensure a welcoming environment for a new 15,000 square foot space developed for Rochester Clinical Research, a local leader in vaccine development.

Medium Project Category (budgets between $1-5 million)
1007 Monroe Avenue Restoration
The restoration of 1007 Monroe Avenue is nominated for its repairs and rebuild of a multi-unit residential building after a fire, including the addition of a third floor, resulting in an enhanced neighborhood asset.

The JW on Monroe
The JW on Monroe in nominated for repurposing a dilapidated mixed use building into a thriving, market rate residential and retail hub in the City of Rochester's Peal/Meigs/Monroe neighborhood.

THE AWARDS LUNCHEON
Recipients of the 2022 Awards will be revealed at the

12th Annual Reshaping Rochester Awards Ceremony
Wednesday, November 16 from 11:30am - 1:30pm
at Harro East Ballroom.
This year's Urban Observations address will be given by Senator Cooney.
Senator Cooney was adopted from an orphanage in Kolkata, India and raised by a single mother in the City of Rochester. He made history in 2020 as the first Asian American elected to state office from upstate New York, and the first state senator in decades to graduate from Rochester City School District (RCSD).

Senator Cooney’s priorities for Rochester include poverty relief, job creation, downtown development, and increased funding for public schools. He was included in City & State magazine’s “40 Under 40” list and 2021 “Power of Diversity: Asian 100” powerful leaders list.

Senator Cooney began his career working on Capitol Hill for the late U.S. Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and later served in the role of chief of staff for the City of Rochester under Mayor Lovely Warren. Prior to running for public office, Senator Cooney served as the senior director for community relations with Empire State Development (ESD) under Governor Andrew Cuomo. At ESD, he helped lead public affairs for large-scale economic development projects.
