Niagara Hospice receives ACHC recognition
In December, Niagara Hospice earned accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) for operational efficiency and provider excellence to patients and families. This certification demonstrates dedication to high-quality care, adherence to regulations and best practices, and the ability to advance continuous improvement in services, support and education. 
Niagara Hospice hires Dr. Jay Newman
Niagara Hospice is pleased to welcome Dr. Jay Newman as assistant medical director. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and brings 30 years of experience to the clinical leadership team. In his new role under medical director, Dr. Richard Castaldo, Dr. Newman will provide leadership to the clinical care team while providing comprehensive end-of-life care for Niagara County patients and families facing a terminal illness. 
Jane James, NP, honored by Rotary Club of Lockport
The Rotary Club of Lockport recently recognized Jane James, NP, Director of Admissions, with a 2020 Paul Harris Fellows Award. James has been a registered nurse for more than 17 years. She joined Niagara Hospice in February 2019 to lead the admissions department and oversees a team of nurses that helps patients and families enter the program in family homes, Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, collaborative partnerships in North Tonawanda and Niagara Falls, and contracted health care facilities, including skilled nursing facilities, hospitals and adult homes.

At this point, I don’t need to tell you how challenging the year 2020 was. We all felt the weight of the pandemic, the economic concerns, and of course, the worry about our friends and family.

Sometimes it’s next to impossible to wrest a bit of positivity from a bad situation, but I try. And the one thing that truly makes me happy is witnessing how our community comes together when times are tough. There is a spirit of genuine care for our neighbors across Niagara County, and it means the world. In 2020, more than 4,000 of you made gifts to Niagara Hospice; that is just remarkable! To think that, in the middle of a pandemic, so many of you found it in your hearts to memorialize loved ones and help other families when they truly need it most.
