Couple Killed On Highway 14  

EAGLE LAKE - An elderly Madison Lake couple were killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon near Eagle Lake. 83-year-old Gerald Frederick was crossing Highway 14 on County Road 17 when his car was struck by a Suburban. Frederick died at a Rochester hospital. His 82-year-old wife Lorraine was dead at the scene.

 

Wallet Among Items Recovered In Third Albrecht Search 

Albrecht, Matthew [Mug Shot]MANKATO - The wallet of Matthew Albrecht was found during a third ground search last Thursday south of Mankato. Blue Earth County Sheriff Capt. Rich Murry says additional bones were found near the Sleepy Hollow subdivision. MORE DETAILS

 

  

 

 

Nibbe Murder Case Back In Court 

Jennifer Nibbe mug shotMANKATO - With volumes of evidence still waiting to be processed, the murder case of Jennifer Nibbe is slowly moving forward. Both sides were in court today for the first time in front of newly assigned Judge Kurt Johnson. Evidence will likely be contested during the next hearing in mid-July.

Nibbe Family Shows Support In Court 

MANKATO - For the first time since she was taken into custody for the murder of her husband, Jennifer Nibbe could turn around in court and see some friendly faces. While the family is not ready to make a formal comment on the case, Nibbe's uncle Andy Gilman said after the hearing that they "love her and support her."  MORE DETAILS AND AUDIO 

 

No Additional Jail Likely For Kirlin

MANKATO - Sentencing will take place in July for a Mankato man who pleaded guilty today to having sexual contact with a 15 year-old boy and taking a pornographic photo. Four other counts were dropped against 47-year-old James Kirlin.

Kirlin is free on bond, pending his sentencing. A judge removed GPS monitoring from his release conditions. He is likely to receive a stayed sentence. MORE DETAILS 

   

Highway 15 Crash Injuries Hanska Couple 

NEW ULM - Two Hanska residents were injured Tuesday morning in a crash south of New Ulm on Highway 15. The State Patrol says a car driven-by 49-year-old Vicky Strassburg turned onto Highway 15 from County Road 25 and struck a pickup truck. Strassburg and a passenger, 47-year-old David Konakowitz, were both treated and released. The driver of the pickup and a passenger were not injured.


Springfield Woman Airlifted Following Crash 

SPRINGFIELD - A Springfield woman was airlifted to a Mankato hospital after the car she was driving ran a stop sign and struck another car.  44-year-old Jenny Kettner is listed in good condition. The accident happened a mile north of Springfield on Highway 4 Tuesday morning.

 

Storms Kill Nine Across The South Overnight 

DENNING, Ark - Nine people have been killed in storms overnight across three southern states. Five are dead in Oklahoma, two are dead in Kansas and two are dead in Arkansas.

 

Joplin Death Toll Continues To Rise 

JOPLIN, Mo. - The death toll in Joplin, Missouri stands at 122 from a tornado now classified as an EF5.

 

Minneapolis Tornado Was An EF1 

MINNEAPOIS - The National Weather Service says the tornado that moved from St. Louis Park to Blaine on Sunday afternoon has been rated as a strong EF1 tornado with wind speeds of 100 to 110 mph. The widest damage path  was approximately 1/2 mile.  At least sporadic damage occurred in a path length of approximately 14 1/4 miles.

MINNEAPOLIS - Nick Blackburn went the distance last night to lead the Twins to a 4-2 win over Seattle.

 

Mauer Miracle -- He'll DH Today In Florida 

MINNEAPOLIS - Twins catcher Joe Mauer will see his first game action since going on the DL April 12th. He's expected to get three or four at-bats today as a DH in extended spring training.

 

East Advances In Section Softball  

MANKATO - Top seed Mankato East scored nine times in the first inning in a 10-0 win over Blue Earth Area in the Section 2AA South tournament. East will face Maple River Saturday at Caswell Park.

 

Loyola Softball Wins Big in 2A 

MANKATO - Mankato Loyola beat Madelia-Truman 11-1 in the Section 2A South softball tournament. Loyola will face USC Saturday at Caswell Park.

 

St. Peter Pitcher Tosses No-No 

UNDATED - In Section2AA, Kami Smesmo tossed a no-hitter in St. Peter's 10-0 win over NRHEG. And Le Sueur-Henderson got a grand-slam from Kaitlyn Braun in a 13-5 win over Glencoe-Silver Lake.

 

Eagles Win A Pair In 3AA  

NEW ULM - In Section 3AA, New Ulm picked up a pair of wins, 10-0 over Fairmont and 11-1 over Jackson County Central to advance to the semis Saturday in Marshall.
