Nick Smith - Deputy Superintendent of Operations

Beginning July 1, 2024, Mr. Nick Smith will serve in the new position of Deputy Superintendent of Operations. Mr. Smith brings a wealth of demonstrated and relevant executive leadership experience to the position, having served Idaho’s public schools in a variety of capacities over the past two decades:

  • Principal, Lowell Elementary School, Boise School District, 2013-2016
  • Chief Deputy Superintendent, Idaho State Department of Education, 2013
  • Deputy Superintendent of Federal Programs, Idaho State Department of Education, 2012-2013
  • Director of Educational Programs, Idaho Digital Learning Academy, 2012
  • Deputy Superintendent of School Support Services, Idaho State Department of Education, 2007-2012
  • Civic Education Coordinator, Idaho State Department of Education, 2006
  • Dean of Students/Social Studies/Health Teacher, Bliss School District, 2003-2006
  • Social Studies/Health Teacher, Bliss School District, 2002-2003


As Deputy Superintendent of Operations, Mr. Smith will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our Boise School District, including Facilities & Operations, Transportation, Human Resources, Food Service, Safety & Security, Information Technology, and Athletics/Activities. Mr. Smith will work closely with other members of our Executive Leadership Council to ensure that our District is running smoothly and efficiently to ensure that the needs of our students, staff and community are being met. In addition, he will play a critical role in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to the operations of our District. The Deputy Superintendent of Operations will also serve on our District's Negotiations Team. Overall, the Deputy Superintendent of Operations will play a critical role in ensuring that our District is able to provide a safe and supportive environment for students and staff.


Mr. Smith received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Idaho, as well as a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership with both a Principal and Superintendent Endorsement.
