FAIRFAX – Drivers are advised that there will be nightly triple-lane closures on northbound and southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway) and a closure/detour of the ramp from northbound I-495 (Inner Loop) to George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) (Exit 43) tonight, Friday, June 20 and Sunday night, June 22, through Wednesday night, July 2, as needed. These closures are for paving, curb, striping and road widening work as part of the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project.
The Beltway triple-lane closures will occur between GWMP and Dulles Toll Road, beginning at 9:30 p.m. at night through 5 a.m. the following morning.
The ramp closure of northbound I-495 to GWMP (Exit 43) will occur from 10 p.m. at night to 5 a.m. the following morning. Drivers should follow the below detour:
- Continue on northbound I-495 across the American Legion Bridge into Maryland and take Exit 41 for Clara Barton Parkway
- Stay left for westbound Clara Barton Parkway
- Take the exit to Carderock. Turn left at stop sign, followed by another left turn to merge back onto eastbound Clara Barton Parkway
- Continue on eastbound Clara Barton Parkway and exit and merge onto southbound I-495 toward Virginia
- Take Exit 43 for George Washington Memorial Parkway
