Outcome of our illegal car washing petition

Towards the end of last year we petitioned residents in the Riverlight Quay area about the spate of illegal car washing in the area. This caused a number of issues, including blocking roads that emergency vehicles sometimes have to use, leaving cleaning chemicals lying around, and putting the cars at risk of being stolen.

We presented a petition signed by dozens of residents and presented it to the Council. Their formal response is that they will continue to monitor the area with parking enforcement officers to ensure this activity does not continue.

Crime Update

Cllr Matt Corner and Cllr Mark Justin regularly meet with the local Nine Elms police team

Our priority is to do everything we can to make sure Nine Elms is a crime free community. Whilst Nine Elms is generally very safe, we do receive reports of drug dealing and antisocial behaviour.

We regularly meet with the dedicated Nine Elms police team. We have also helped set up a resident led ward panel, which considers policing priorities and provides a direct way for residents to communicate with the police.

Remember, we can’t handle reports of crime. Those have to go to the police on 999 in an emergency or 101 in a non emergency. You can also follow our local police team HERE.

Christmas Tree Chaos

One of the many piles of trees left uncollected by the Council this January.

Every year Wandsworth Council offers a free Christmas tree collection service to residents, which was meant to be completed by Monday 16th January.

However, the Council was forced to extend its deadline for collecting the trees to 23rd January, but has still failed to complete the collection, with piles of trees remaining scattered across the Borough. This causes serious mobility issues, especially for those with small children, the disabled and elderly. Read all about it HERE.

Many residents in Nine Elms enjoy central collection of Christmas trees, however we are all still paying for this service through our council tax. As local councillors we are calling on the Labour administration to be honest to Nine Elms residents about why the service has failed and when the collection will be completed.

Improvements ahead for Battersea Park Road

The jury is still out as to what it will actually look like!

TfL have released a report on planned improvements to Battersea Park Road, including cycling infrastructure, following a consultation last year. It's great to see much needed investment for the Queenstown Road roundabout area. Details are HERE.

These plans follow the ambitious plans for Nine Elms Lane that have already been announced. We have already been successful in supporting residents at Elm Quay Court on Nine Elms Lane in getting changes to the plans so they work better for residents.

Nine Elms to Clapham Junction Extension

One day you might be able to use the new tube station to get to Clapham Junction…

Wandsworth Council’s Transport Committee recently voted to approve spending on a feasibility study for the proposed Nine Elms to Clapham Junction tube extension. 

As Nine Elms councillors we are supportive in principle of a tube link to Clapham Junction. This is because it will provide us with better links to central Wandsworth, including the popular Northcote Road and Wandsworth Common areas. However this does need to work for our community and we need to ensure adequate capacity on tube trains coming from Clapham Junction through Battersea Power Station.

It is now for the Council to identify potential funding, as estimates are that it could cost over £750m.
