Nine Honorees at President's Legacy Ball

Hundreds were in attendance for the Texas A&M University-Kingsville President's Legacy Ball, "Noche de Estrella Brillante," an event which served to recognize nine major contributing people and organizations to the university with induction into its Legacy Society.

The President's Legacy Ball is annually held in the Memorial Student Union Building Ballrooms and hosted by the university's President and First Lady, Dr. Steven Tallant and wife, Karen. Each year, the event recognizes individuals, families, corporations and foundations whose cumulative donations to the university total more than $100,000 with induction into the university's Legacy Society. Gender pay gap addressed at #EqualPayDay event

The Egyptians had it right, Barbara Canales said.

"They had queens like Cleopatra," Canales said. "I haven't seen any Cleos running around lately, except for my late grandmother, Dr. (Clotilde P. Garcia), who was a great bra burner in her day, and a great feminist. You have to look back to the Egyptians to have equality for women."

Canales, a Port of Corpus Christi board commissioner, spoke via Skype at the YWCA Corpus Christi Equal Pay Day luncheon at the Corpus Christi Regional Transit Authority. She followed up John Cicala, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Larry Elizondo with CITGO and Nueces County Court at Law Judge No. 2 Lisa Gonzalez.

Equal Pay Day started in 1996 by the National Committee on Pay Equity to address the gap in wages between men and women, especially women of color. It takes place every April 4. Read more about this article.

Alumnus, Mr. Louis Mogas, Shares Insight with Students

Inspiring future entrepreneurs


	Alumnus Louis Mogas, Class of 1963

V. Louis Mogas, CBA alumnus and chairman and founder of MOGAS Industries, Inc., a valve-manufacturing company, visited with business students on April 3. He stressed first-hand the importance of entrepreneurship and "enjoying your work".

MOGAS Industries provides isolation and control valve solutions and engineering services for severe service applications in power, mining, oil & gas, refining, chemical/petrochemical and specialty industries. MOGAS was recently ranked as 28th best medium-sized company to work for in Texas.

	Tiphanie Contreras

Tiphanie Grace Contreras is the recipient of the College of Business
Administration 2017 Student Leadership Award, which is awarded
to the student who demonstrates the highest level of outstanding
leadership by serving as a positive role model, practicing ethical behavior, honoring commitment and displaying responsibility. This is the second year the college has bestowed this award to a deserving student.

Contreras is a marketing major from Freer, Texas and is currently
serving as a marketing intern with the university's Campus Recreation and Fitness Center and is a member of the Javelina Marketing Club. Congratulations, Tiphanie!

Finance Faculty Research Wins Best in Track Award

Dr. Dongnyoung Kim Reaches New Heights


	Dr. Dongnyoung Kim, Assistant Professor

Assistant professor, Dr. Dongnyoung Kim was recently recognized at the annual Academy of Finance meeting, held March 22-24 at Palmer Hilton House in Chicago. The conference brings together finance professors, practitioners and students from across the globe. The Academy of Finance has approximately 180 active members.

Kim's paper, "CEO Political Ideology and Employee Relation,"
won best in track award: corporate finance from Academy
of Finance. The paper examines the effect of CEOs' political
ideology on employee treatment and firm value.

This year also marks the publication of the 15th edition of
the Proceedings of the Academy of Finance. The publication
is a non-refereed compendium of articles and summaries of
research presented at the annual meeting.
