CHAIRMAN'S CORNER

Skyline Transportation, Inc.
Wow, what a great annual convention we experienced a couple of weeks ago! I can’t thank all those who attended enough for making it a tremendous success. It was good for the soul to re-connect with so many dear friends and colleagues that we haven’t seen in so long.

I certainly enjoyed the excellent program that the convention committee put together including ATA Chairman Sherri Brumbaugh Garner, some comedy from Greg Warren and Henry Cho, and the insights and perspective provided by demographer Ken Gronbach. I would like to extend a big thank you to all of the sponsors that made those presentations possible as it couldn’t happen without you.

The Expo exhibit, golf outing, and silent auction were also a huge success and we are grateful to our partners that sponsored the events and to all those who donated items for the auction.  It’s great to know all that good that will come from your generosity.
I would like to offer a special thank you to Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton, Senator Paul Bailey, and Representative Pat Marsh for the excellent legislative session. It’s not too often we get the chance to have an open and honest dialogue with lawmakers and I sincerely appreciate their time and transparency with our members.

I would be remiss if I didn’t point out all the work that our Road Team Captains and TTA staff perform as well. They arrive and start working on Friday and don’t stop until Wednesday to make sure everything is in place and running smoothly for all of us. Thank you to all the members of the Road Team, the TTA staff, and your families for your time and efforts.

Please be sure to check out the agenda for the upcoming TTA Fall Conference at Pickwick Landing State Park set for October 14th and 15th. It’s an informative and fun couple of days that will not disappoint anyone that attends. It’s fast approaching but there’s still time to reserve your spot!

Thank you and I look forward to another great year as your Chairman.

LEGISLATIVE CORNER
Dale Allen, Adams and Reese, LLP
TTA just concluded a very successful convention at the San Destin Hilton, FL, September 19-21, 2021. Thanks to all who joined us! Also, a special thanks to House Speaker Cameron Sexton, House Speaker Pro Tempore Pat Marsh and Senator/Commerce Committee Chairman Paul Bailey for joining us and providing insight into legislative issues that are important to the trucking industry. Many key issues were addressed, including COVID-19 vaccination/testing requirements, highway funding and construction progress, driver shortages, and workforce development.  A nice surprise was the generous contribution from McKee Foods Corp. to TruckPAC that was presented by Connie Vaughn.  Several suggestions were made at the TTA Board meeting as to how to update members on how to participate in supporting TruckPAC. All of those suggestions are being considered and we expect to incorporate many of those going forward such as including the names of TruckPAC contributors in our monthly newsletter, considering the use of the TTA app to provide updates to supporters, making changes to the annual invoice to reflect easier payment methods, and continue to ask that all Board members and Executive Committee members or their companies contribute annually.

Again, thanks to everyone who attended the convention. Legislative fundraising will remain active until the legislature reconvenes in January 2022. Hopefully, we will return to some sort of normalcy in 2022 which will include hosting our annual legislative reception. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.
ADAMS AND REESE LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Mandatory Vaccine Guidance Issued for Federal Contractors:
A Sneak Peek of What’s to Come for Private Sector Employers?

September 2021

President Biden’s announcement earlier this month that private-sector employers with 100 or more employees will be required to have all employees either vaccinated or tested weekly has left many employers scrambling. This is especially true for those who were making vaccinations voluntary for their workforce up until this point. In anticipation of what’s to come, many employers are now scratching their heads and wondering:

By what date will private sector employees need to be vaccinated?

Does the employer bear the cost of any required weekly testing for those who remain unvaccinated?

How will the mandate be enforced and by whom?

How is this legal?

If you’ve been asking yourself these questions, you’re not alone.

2021 SILENT AUCTION
The 2021 TTF Annual Silent Auction was a huge success! Thank you to everyone that donated and participated!

This year was the second time we have conducted the Auction in an online format and the first time that we held select items as live auction items. Thank you to TJ Daniel, Huff & Puff Trucking, Inc., who was our live auction bid caller. We are very pleased with the success, but we could not have made this possible without the support of our wonderful donors and participants. Through the Foundation we are able to promote safety to the motoring public, provide scholarships and support various children's charities across Tennessee. Thank you again for helping us keep Tennessee Safely on the Move.
