Hit the Pavement Peadalling

WALNUT CREEK - By noon Tuesday, small clusters of green bicycles with baskets on the handle bars had already been placed at office buildings all around the Shadelands Business Park. There were about 50 of them in the Ultimate Fieldhouse parking lot for a kickoff event that day for the new LimeBike bike share program aimed at workers at, and visitors to, the 267-acre business park. There was general support among the 100 or so people at the event for this new program, which is being offered free to Shadelands employees as a perk. The usual cost is $1 per half-hour the bikes are used; they're activated using a smartphone app.  Jay Hoyer, chief executive officer for the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce, made the event's introductions but not without a little cycling humor: "What's the hardest thing about riding a bicycle?" he asked. "The pavement .... "  No test riders Tuesday fully experienced the pavement in the manner suggested by that joke, but sandwiches, treats and bottled water were served.
