Psalm 93
3 "The floods have lifted up, O Lord,  the floods have lifted up their   voice; the floods lift up their   roaring.
More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters..."

Floods are a terrible trauma to experience. First there's winds, and there are rains--lightning, thunder. Sometimes there is hail. Nothing can be more catastrophic, though,  than water...otherwise known as floods.

The power of floods are devastating; they move hills and cause mountains to slide; they drown whole towns and cause roads to crumble right before our eyes.

God says He's bigger than all that. There is no "voice and roaring" that He cannot overcome. He is more majestic than the thunders of any waters...

It's been said that God's majesty is only as good as the prayers of His children. Oh, God can overcome the mightiest floods in our lives without out hesitation, and, without our prayers. This is very true. But, what work can be done when we do couple our prayers with God's mighty hand!  To recognize His work, His mighty help in times of great need, makes His power and awesome grace seem even more graceful, especially in such needful times as these.

Pray for the hungry and homeless in our city; pray for the call to serve throughout our synod, the ELCA, and the world. The floods are great. But no one tops the grace and peace that our Lord brings, to us, and to His creation.

Pray for the sick, the disengaged from Christ's Church, and for those who are imprisoned.  His love knows no bounds, and that love is best known through hands and hearts just like yours and mine.

Amid the floods in our lives,
God loves you and so do we.

Gospel Of The Week

Jesus Prays for All Believers

20 "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,  21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.  May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.   22 I have given them the glory that you gave me,  that they may be one as we are one -  23 I in them and you in me-so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me  and have loved them  even as you have loved me.

24 "Father, I want those you have given me  to be with me where I am, and to see my glory,  the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
25 "Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me.  26 I have made you[a] known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."

John 17:20-26
