"Returning in joy..."  (Luke 10:17)

Jesus had sent out seventy people to go and share the Good News of the love and mercy of God to everyone they could.  He prepared them well-told them what to take with them and what not to take with them.
What did He tell them to take with them?

Faith in that God.

That was all they needed and nothing else.

That's why He told them not to take provisions with them.  Trusting in God, He would provide for them. Where they weren't welcome, He taught them to walk away until someone does welcome them.  Pretty simple instructions.

Not so easy to follow (true) since we like taking plenty of supplies with us, but this is faith, folks.  "Trust Me," God says. Enough said.

It takes a lot of faith, doesn't it, to do such a thing!

You and I have such faith.  Did you know that? God instilled in all of us.  Read what Paul taught Timothy (II Tim 1:7):

"God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline."

Faith is God's gift to you.  Respect it, honor it, and by all means, use it!  According to this Sunday's Gospel, it is all you need to discover the truest form of joy that exists in this world!

And also recall:  God always loves you, and so do we!

Your friend in Christ,
Pastor Jim

P.S. I hope you are having a wonderful 4 th of July celebration!  We thank God for our great nation!

Gospel Of The Week

Jesus Sends Out the Seventy-Two
10 After this the Lord  appointed seventy-two[a] others  and sent them two by two  ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.   He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.   Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.   Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

"When you enter a house, first say, 'Peace to this house.'  If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you.  Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages.  Do not move around from house to house.

"When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you.  Heal the sick who are there and tell them, 'The kingdom of God  has come near to you.'  10 But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say,  11 'Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you.  Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.'

Luke 10:1-11
